In the words of Marv Albert

We sure can use a sharp shooter from the three..gives us another dimension and a good one.

I will take him any day. Not sure if anyone watched the CHSAA title game when he was a sophomore and Khadeen was a Sr, but if you did you know why I feel that way.

But Myles beating his butt is enough to make Marv wear women's underwear again. :D.

Seriously we need a pipeline. That is what will make us a program. Here is hoping. Double pinky finger cross.

this kid will fit in great; we definitely need a 3 point shooter on this team.

Imagine if Soffer matures into a shooter off the bench too? Then we'd have Powell, Singh & Soffer as deep threats combined with tough, experienced slashers in IW & KC, plus Desi who can do both and bang down low.

Think Carrington might have something to say about this. LOL

. Best backcourt in BE with @IsaiahW_15 next yr!
If everyone returns, it shouldn't matter. We should be able to take the title of the fastest 40 minutes in college basketball. No reason not to go 10,11 deep and wear everyone down 4 legit guards, veer and Desi at the 3, nzei ish and Anderson at the 4, Delgado and Anthony at the 5. With that depth the pace of the game should be unreal.

The only flaw in the "run and gun" plan for Seton Hall has been rebounding. If you can't rebound, you can't get up the floor quickly. We continue to have problems with that.

Sorry I went by the school website saying he's a junior.
He has already applied for another year at the Hall and expects to receive an answer in the summer.

Can that change? Of course. But those are his quotes told directly to me when I asked.

Excellent job by Myles. It's good to know that we go from limited depth to a deep back court. Now if we can get Taurean Thompson, who I have heard we are slightly leading, we really have the chance to really take the program to the next level. Huge week ahead. One game at a time!

I'm curious as to what's going on with Goodluck Okonoboh? Did he find a school? I remember people saying Whitehead was trying to recruit him here.

Cuse is probably leading. But we and Providence are right there as well.

"Imagine" - wasn't that a John Lennon song?

Two story lines in my mind that explain these numbers.

1. I'm assuming those are season statistics since our conference average is slightly higher. We are part of a handful of BE teams who play very weak OOC schedules. I would expect us to look better in an area like rebounds per game when we are playing a schedule 100-150 spots lower than most of our conference-mates. The only other teams playing such weak schedules included Creighton and Marquette. (Our NCSOS is 274).

2. These numbers line up almost perfectly with adjusted tempo. We chuck up shots early in the shot clock, and love to run when we can. Villanova is at the bottom of that list. Is that because they are terrible at rebounding? No, they've lost the rebounding war only once in conference play. They just value possessions in the half court a lot more (and can make shots at insane rates sometimes). They slow the ball down which affects how many possible rebounds per game they can get.

We've lost the rebounding war in 3 out of 5 conference games so far. The only point to my post was that if you want to run a lot you need to have a good rebounding team. It is not the only thing that matters, but it is a huge piece of the puzzle.

Great statement by Lavin about rebounding: winning the rebounding battle in basketball is like controlling the line of scrimmage in football.

My mistake on the 3 rebounding losses. We won 3-2 in the rebounding war. Games where it is so close (like Creighton), I think rebounding takes a second to the other things the teams are doing in the game. We weren't hitting shots as much as they were, which inflates rebound numbers but doesn't help in the score department. Our A:T was also below 1, which is just bad and has continually plagued us.

I'm not sure what the Accumulation numbers are supposed to help explain. We play very fast, which creates more rebounding opportunities. Where we won the rebounding war (outside of Creighton), we won games handily. Teams that slow the game down and either shoot well or rebound well are going to give us trouble.

Totally agree! Although we still have a way to go to be considered a great rebounding team, we're light years ahead of where we've been in the past.

Big Apple Basketball All-Tournament Team

NEW YORK -- The 13th year of the Big Apple Invitational featured McDonald's All-American Sacha Killeya-Jones and the highly touted Rawle Alkins. But neither of them made the All-Tournament Team in a competitive weekend in New York City.

Here is the five-man Big Apple Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Myles Powell, 6-2 Sr., South Kent (CT) (Seton Hall)

Powell hit four threes in the first half and five total, as his team went on to defeat Alkins and Word of God, 87-80. Powell finished with 26 points. His five threes were tied with Brandon Knight for third-most all-time at the Big Apple Invitational.

Mustapha Heron, 6-5 Sr., Sacred Heart (NY) (Auburn)

Despite losing a thrilling showdown to Devonte Green and Long Island Lutheran, 73-72, Heron finished with 41 points and 13 rebounds. Heron came just three points shy of tying Sean Kilpatrick's record for most points in a game at the Big Apple Invitational. He also made the Hoophall All-Tournament Team.

Devonte Green, 6-2 Sr., Long Island Lutheran (NY) (Indiana)

Green, the brother of San Antonio Spurs' guard Danny Green, finished with 39 points and five rebounds and shot 4-for-9 from behind the arc. His step-back jumper with 40 seconds remaining gave Lutheran a 72-71 one lead.

A.J. Brodeur, 6-8 Sr., Northfield Mount Hermon (MA) (UPenn)

Brodeur finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds as his team went on to defeat Kentucky-bound Killeya-Jones and Virginia Episcopal, 76-66.

Rashond Salnave, 6-2 Sr., Benjamin Cardozo (NY) (Monmouth)

Salnave dominated with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists, as Cardozo went on to defeat Friendship Charter, 70-52. After the game, Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio said Monmouth got a steal with Salnave.
