One of my college contacts is extremely close with a higher up in the Hawks organization. Talked with him after the Myles Powell Hawks workout and here is what he said.

- The Hawks executive was very impressed with Myles maturity, mentality, basketball IQ and leadership. Was blown away by the transformation of his body over the past 3 years.

- Executive said if Myles stayed in the draft he is one of the 3 best pure shooters in the draft class and was blown away with the consistency of his mechanics and speed of his release.

- Said that Myles has the potential to be an extremely valuable role player in the NBA with some work. The Hawks recommendation to Myles was to return to Seton Hall for his senior year with a focus on improving ball handling, passing and defensive consistency.

- However, and this is big to me, the person noted that they explicitly told Myles to not try to be a PG. They expressed to him his value in the NBA and college is a player that primarily plays off the ball but can also play lead guard. They told him when he’s on the ball at SHU to still be aggressive and look to score first. Said he has no future as a pure PG because it takes away what he does best, but that improving his ball handling and passing will help him as a lead guard.

- Said while he’s a bit undersized height wise, because of how physically impressive he is, they were not worried about his ability to defend at the NBA level.

- This scout believes if Myles stayed in the draft someone might take a flyer on him late second round but that he’d spend a year or two in the G League developing his lead guard abilities.

- He believes Myles with some improvements his senior year could be an early second round pick that gets guaranteed money or at worst a two way deal. Despite being undersized he believes Myles can have a lengthy NBA career due to his shooting, ability to score at all 3 levels, and mentality and leadership. Said he’s probably never a starter but could be an extremely valuable piece on a winning team.

- He compared Myles to Ben Gordon with a bit less length but a bit more size and strength at similar stages in their careers and while he doesn’t think he will have the career of Ben Gordon, he does think he’s an NBA caliber player.
