Investing in our future

Clearly right now NIL should be the priority. But as TrueBlue1989 notes many major donors want to help create a permanent legacy that will stand for decades and decades.

Those that claim they will not support the NIL for what they believe are legitimate reasons have every right to their opinion. But if you refuse to support NIL, there are few excuses not to support the Practice Facility. The latest structure being built on campus, with the new dorms to follow.

I highly doubt Seton Hall basketball will exist 100 years from now. Maybe not even 20 or 30.
Doubtful but the practice facility probably won’t be there in 100 years. In todays college athletics arms race, it will be obsolete soon after opening.

I have a feeling we've probably reached the high water mark on that arms race, at least in as far as it concerns those but the top revenue producing athletics programs. I'm more inclined to say it'll be our last such facility, for however long it lasts, and whatever adaptations it takes on.

It will exist. Men’s college basketball as we know it now, will be very different.

I don't think there will be men's college basketball 100 years from now, so therefore no SH basketball either.

Seton Hall basketball‘s first season was in 1903/04 and is still fielding a team 120 year’s latter. What form college basketball takes may be different then it is now but I wouldn’t ever suggest that we wouldn’t see us playing basketball decades from now.

It may exist but not at a high D-1 level. If the current NIL policy continues, can Seton Hall basketball make it as a Big East team another 10 years without some influx of real big money?

It's concerning when a person in Vegas buys a table of ten with his own money and offers a great deal to our readers here and we can even fill that table with less than a week to go.

A shame because Paul was going to buy a second table if the demand dictated. I remember when I first heard what Paul was doing I was convinced we would sell out both tables. Very disappointing.

20-30 years ago, boards at NHL rinks were white without advertising; basketball arenas didn’t have ads running across the scorers table. College BB teams will soon have uniforms with sponsors logos to raise money. Pro’s already do.

Memphis has “Fed Ex” money. Assuming McBride is trying to do the same. SHU BB will be here…in what form? Who knows, but who knows what CBB will look like.

Is it possible that SHU has a better chance to pay a player a few hundred thousand dollars than build a 100 million dollar practice facility? The myopic 20y old might be more impressed with cash than all the bells and whistles. A puncher’s chance.

Remember even the Yankees took $25 million to put a patch on their uniforms for a commercial enterprise. Sports teams , pro and college are always looking to add revenue and advertising a commercial enterprise with a uniform patch is a logical choice.

Also people have other things going on in their lives they can’t just randomly sign up for this even if they wanted to.

Could it be possible that most here who regularly attend the Beefsteak got their tickets and table early because we all know it sells out?

That's certainly possible and was discussed by Paul and others.

But I doubt that if this was offered at any other school they would be begging to fill one single table. Hard to believe that everybody purchased their Beefsteak tickets 2-3 weeks in advance.

I could see early purchases from people who go every year and sit with the same people all the time. People here, for the most part, seem to be longtime fans who know the drill. Many people start asking about the date and tickets well before that information is announced.

Same crowd every time. I like to think that the majority of us see the glass half full.

Just stating an opinion after someone said something about a building being there 100 years from now. Has nothing to do with this season or a glass half full/empty.

Haha if you think your opinion was that innocent, I question your judgement. Reread what you wrote. SHU not existing 20 or 30 years now is positive?

All I did was express an opinion that I doubt SH basketball (and college basketball as a whole) will exist in 100 years, and maybe as soon as 20-30 years down the road.

That's not at all what he said.
Sorry, SHU basketball* won’t exist 20 or 30 years from now. Unless I’m missing something, that’s what was said.

@shu09 has every right to his opinion. My point is that it’s a negative opinion. We are doing everything we can to exist, adapt, and compete in this new world. Why beat down the people who are actively trying to help? If you’re not trying to help, fine. That’s your prerogative. It’s the unnecessary appearances in every thread with those negative opinions that wear thin on me.

We don’t need to get into a pissing match about it. We’ll have to agree to disagree. We’re all adults and we’re all fighting for the same team here. Let’s bleed blue together and keep working toward progress. That’s all that matters right now.

This is what you said. You specifically said SHU basketball.

Yes. So what's the issue here? You're repeating what I already told you that I previously said. By the way, you omitted my other post where I said I wasn't sure if college basketball as a whole will exist in 100 years, which is the foundation of my opinion.

But if you want to go ahead and make yourself feel good and make a big issue out of my opinion, go ahead and be my guest. I really don't care. None of us will be around then to see how it all played out anyway.

Didn’t you quit on college basketball? Surprised you still care enough to follow.

Honestly, I think there's a better chance that Seton Hall doesn't exist in 100 years than college basketball won't.

Also part of my thinking, yes.
Well you said 20-30 possibly which is laughable.

I wish I could bet and collect on 100 year bet re SHU. It has been in existence for 167 years. Each of you should read Professor Quinn’s new book on the history of SHU. You will read it and change your view. SHU has never been better positioned.

09 is entitled to his opinion, regardless of how daft it is. Others posters are likewise entitled to have opinions too, even reasonable ones.

Well he did say Seton Hall basketball NOT the university itself.
