One thing that is sort of alluded to, but never fully developed is the fear of career ending injuries to athletes turning down an immediate payday and risking such injury by returning to school for possible greater future rewards.
I have been vaguely aware that there may be insurance that can be purchased to protect a player against that possibility. But, is there really such insurance, and if there is, is it financially feasible for the average college athlete? More to the point, do you think any present draftees who returned to school last year after making that decision actually had such insurance. Somehow I doubt it.
Something tells me that is no such easily available magic vest of protection, and if not, it is certainly something that should be a real concern for such ”at risk” student athletes? I’m sure potential draftees like, Bentil, Hart and Whitehead have and are wrestling with this problem. I certainly would be concerned if it were my son. Frank
