Ish Best Defensive Forward Since Jerry Walker

I've been watching SHU since the days of Mosley and Lape - and the Jerry/Terry years were some of the best. Without a doubt, Ish is perhaps the best defensive forward we've had since Jerry Walker. In some ways, he is better - a bit more athletic and able to defend multiple positions because he was a guard before he grew taller. Has very quick feet and is so active.

Ish fronts guys, denies the ball, moves his feet so well, and makes it hard for the offensive player to get into a rhythm. What a job he did on Ellenson! Jerry had a treasure chest of offensive moves - Ish is still learning the ropes on offense. Gordon Winchester also comes to mind - but Ish has more upside, no knock on Winchester. Ish and Derrick Gordon are two elite defenders and set the tone for the team. Whitehead and Carrington are right there with them as excellent defenders. This defense is the foundation for what could be a surprising season.

Ish not only defends the other teams front court players, but he had two strips on the Wichita St guards, during OT. One of which is an All American. That is a kid who knows how to play D.

Ish is developing into a very good and versitle 4. He has great athleticism, can run the floor and finds space/trails the play for easy buckets. He still has lapses but he is improving game by game. The Jerry Walker comparisons are way too premature...lets just enjoy his upside right now.

Every player last night played great defense. All three guards get after it. The forwards too, and Angel was huge. I thought he had the matchup that would hurt us the most, but he never let that happen. We also rebounded their misses and kept them to one shot.

And maybe the best thing, no one takes a defensive sequence off. They play their asses off all game. And, all three guards got caught in switches to put them on the big guys, and they played them tough.

Not really - enjoying his upside but I've been a ticket holder for 20+ years and at this pace and from what I see he's definitely right up there with Jerry and Winchester. He's got all the tools.

What about Adrian Griffin. How soon we forget. It's way too soon to compare to players that played a long career and WON BIG TIME. But I do love Ish and enjoy watching him grow.
