Its Over

Yeah, that's how it's going to end up. Still a great run by Jack, who was an excellent candidate for New Jersey. Voters sent a loud message last night even though it wasn't enough to overcome those who just vote straight D down the line every time.

Got to remember there are one million more democratic voters than republicans in NJ so this is a message to Dems that the public doesn’t want to go too far left .

And its what happened with whitman and christie

New Jersey has become significantly more liberal over the last 10 years. For Jack to even be competitive shows the electorate doesn't want its government to be radical left. Center left is fine, but they are saying no to radicals.

Had a silly thought that maybe the votes not yet counted are mail in votes from Ocean County. I believe the minority voters who could not work during covid because their kids were at home, who are unable to afford meats and groceries for their families lately or pay for gas to travel back and forth to work weight in and voted for Jack. The left stands for the rich and famous, not the working class.

In 2009, Dems lost ground in urban centers (Newark, Trenton, Camden) because voters wouldn't turn out due to Corzine's tone deaf approach to financial crisis.

It's possible that the same dynamic is playing out this year with Murphy and his tone deaf approach to pandemic.

Big difference is that a lot of right leanig folks have been driven out of state since 12 years ago. Also, Christie was an elitist (Bush ties) whereas Jack is a sincerely regular guy.

Murphy definitely lost a chunk of support in the urban areas - whether that's low turnout or something else, I don't know. But Jack did a great job turning out Republicans, Independents and disaffected Democrats across the board. His totals in typically GOP counties are significantly higher than Guadagno four years ago, plus he cut into Murphy's edge in the more urban counties.

The bigger story is the collapse of Murphy's support in South Jersey. The margins for Jack in Cape May, Cumberland, Atlantic, Salem and Gloucester counties are night and day from the 2017 race. For instance, Murphy lost about 7% support in Essex and Hudson counties but he lost nearly double that in most of South Jersey versus 2017. He won Cumberland county with 55% back then. This time Jack pulled in 55% to Murphy's 43%. Salem was a slight edge for Guadagno in 2017 - Jack won it by 30 points this year. That also explains why Sweeney looks likely to lose. Huge collapse of Democratic support down there.

I am proud of Atlantic County!

Jack C just pulled a McGreevey. MCGreevey came out of nowhere to narrowly lose to Whitman. He then campaigned for the next four years as the clear leader of the party and won easily next time. Look for the same thing to happen.

Unfortunately, I think Murphy's next four years will be just as bad, if not worse, as the first four. Jack should keep himself relevant and see what the landscape looks like after 2024.

Jack is a class act. He is now on the National Radar. Although I've heard him say he's not interested in other political offices, but might he be a future US Senatorial candidate from NJ? I was fortunate enough to know Jack quite well when attending Seton Hall. So proud of the battle he waged against Gov. Murphy.

Never met him but he doesn't seem like the typical fake, sleazy politician (someone like Murphy, Cuomo, etc.). Thanks for your first person experience.

The problem is Murphy is the most destructive governor in NJ memory. A hard left authoritarian unlike we have ever seen in this state. Four more years could be hard to recover from.

Not only is this former Goldman Sachs banker and Harvard MBA an economic failure (surely he can't be so incompetent) but he has been hell bent on the state's social destruction: marijuana, illegals, gender ideology, nursing home restrictions, partial birth abortion, police relations, perhaps also a deceitful vaccine mandate, etc.

Between Biden and Murphy, our beloved home state is getting it worse right now from the "progressives" (Marxists) than any other state in the union.

I don't know him personally but have a lot of mutual linkages. I've heard the same thing about Jack. Good, down to earth guy.
