Jaquan Harris, a class of 2022 point guard from St. Thomas Aquinas Institute in North Brunswick, New Jersey, is tracking to be a high major 2022 point guard with the potential to be a national level recruit.
Seton Hall got involved with Harris months ago, and has hosted him for two games this season. On January 25th, assistant coach Grant Billmeier extended a scholarship offer to Harris through his coach Bob Turco.
“Coach Billmeier extended me the offer through my coach,” Harris told PirateCrew. “He has been recruiting me for awhile and they decided to pull the trigger.”
For Harris, the Seton Hall offer was a big one, as he is very familiar with the local program.
“I know that they have been on a roll lately and are ranked #1 in the Big East and # 10 in the country,” he said. “The offer really meant a lot to me because I am from New Jersey and Seton Hall is an amazing school.”
Another important factor for Harris was the success that New Jersey native Myles Powell has had in South Orange.
“It means a lot seeing how hard he has worked to get where he is at and how he dominates every collect team he plays,” Harris said. “Myles has shown that if you work hard, you can have a successful college career and stay home.”
Harris has visited Seton Hall numerous times, most recently for the Pirates thrilling home win over Marquette.
“I was at the Prudential Center for the Marquette game,” he said. “It was a good game and motivated me to want to play in an atmosphere like that even more.”
During one of his visits to Seton Hall, Harris met head coach Kevin Willard.
“I got to meet Coach Willard briefly,” he said. “We didn’t have a long conversation but I know he is a great coach and a great person and my coach speaks very highly of him.”
Right now, Harris has had a quiet recruitment, mainly focused on two in-state schools, Rutgers and Seton Hall. To date, Harris’ father, and coach Bob Turco, have managed much of the interest and allowed Jaquan to focus on school and basketball.
As a player, Harris speaks on his size and versatility.
“I am an all-around 6’4” point guard that can score from all three levels,” he said. “I pride myself on playing with great energy and making my teammates better.”
To date, Harris has not decided on an AAU team to play with but he plans on making that decision soon.
Right now, Harris does not have any top schools, however, he does know what he is looking for.
“I am just looking for a good basketball atmosphere and a place where I can develop as a player and grow my skills,” he said. Traits that surely make him attractive to the premier college basketball powers in state.
