Prominent New Jersey Attorney Kevin H. Marino Elected Chair of Seton Hall University's Board of Regents
Seton Hall University Board of Regents has elected prominent New Jersey attorney Kevin H. Marino as the next chair of the board. Marino is the founding partner of Marino, Tortorella & Boyle, P.C., one of the most well respected white-collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation boutique law firms in the United States. He will commence his first term on December 5, 2019.
"I am thrilled and honored to serve Seton Hall University as the next chair of its board of regents," Mr. Marino said. Marino received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude in English literature and political science from Drew University and his law degree cum laude from Seton Hall's School of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review. He has taught criminal procedure, professional responsibility, trial advocacy and legal writing as an adjunct professor at our law school and in numerous other legal programs.

Seton Hall Law honored Marino in 2010 with its Distinguished Graduate Award and in 2019 with the St. Thomas More Medal. He served as member of the Board of Trustees of Drew University from 2006 to 2015, when he resigned to join the Board of Regents at Seton Hall. Since joining the university's board, he has chaired the Medical School Task Force in 2017-18 and the Presidential Search Committee in 2018-19. Also, he has been a member of the Law School Board of Visitors since its founding.
Marino is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation; a Trustee of the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey; a member of the Board of Directors of Tri-County Scholarship Fund; the past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation of New Jersey; a member and former Trustee of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, which in 2015 honored him with the Honorable Lawrence A. Whipple Memorial Award; a Director of the United States District Court Historical Society; and an annual Honorary Chair of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund dinner committee, which in 2014 honored him with its Award of Excellence. He is also a past recipient of the Essex County Bar Association's Criminal Trial Attorney Achievement Award.
A resident of Westfield, Marino and his wife, Rita, have two grown sons, Harrison Marino of Washington, D.C., and Stephen Marino of Boston, Massachusetts. Rita Marino, who received her master's degree in education from Seton Hall, served as a Graduate Assistant in the university's Office of Career Services in 1988-89 and then as the Assistant Director of Career Services in 1989-90.
Marino is succeeding Patrick M. Murray as board chair. Murray has served as chair of Seton Hall's Board of Regents for nine years and during that time he has provided outstanding leadership to his alma mater and strong mentorship to his fellow board members. He was instrumental in shepherding the creation of the University's School of Medicine in partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health and overseeing the past two presidential searches. In 2016, Murray and his wife Mary Ann Pfaff Murray made a $5 million dollar gift commitment to the University – one of the largest gifts in Seton Hall history.
