Popkin talked about the NIT as an experience for next year. KW said something like, "it's always good to keep playing."

But did not use the words "next year" at all.

I'm grasping at straws here but .....

Buyout or not. I don't think Willard will be back next year.

I checked if his house was listed for sale. I am sad to inform everyone that as of March 7,2014, at 356pm, his home is not listed for sale.

He's coached the last two months like he doesn't want to be here...we can only hope.

A change will do everyone good. Hard to see any sane man with a family to support walk away from millions, but maybe if he can line something else up quickly he can negotiate the buyout or something. Never know.

Guy is just totally beaten, overwhelmed.

Let's think about the absolute worst case scenario if Willard gets fired:

1) Mass transfers -- Gibbs, KC, AD, IW for example, throw in Singh, maybe more.
2) SHU pays the huge buyout, I still have no clue what it is, let's say 1.4 million.
3) We start over with a totally depleted roster and win 2 games in the BE next year tops, with horrendous attendance.
4) The next year we bring in some decent recruits and we start the process all over again with a class that most likely will not be close to this years.
5) SHU hires the wrong guy and we are 12/13 years into this rebuilding process and we start hearing the same crap on this board all over again. ( Which we will no matter what )

or

1) Keep Willard one more year and avoid mass transfers
2) No huge buyout
3) Hope for growth and improvement --- I know, I know ......
4) Sign 2 more recruits this year to form a better than average roster ( I know Willard's history isn't great but he has some quality guys on the roster now, don't care how he got them )
5) Avoid an almost never ending rebuilding process that will be potential more painful than this one. ( It is a very realistic if the wrong coach is chosen again it will make this season look like 1989 going forward. )

To be clear I am neutral regarding Willard, just worried about a complete nightmare losing the roster that is loaded with young talent and another rebuilding project, and it will be a project, a huge one.No quick fixes here

Clear example of looking at a glass half full...maybe on to something?

With that absurd rationale of worrying about players transferring, you'd never fire a coach. You could make a good case that guys like IW and AD won't go anywhere as they want the quickest path to the NBA - which does not include sitting out a year. And maybe, just maybe guys like KC and DR follow suit to play with their boys.

Yes. He does seem like he's a beaten guy. It's happened to many of us- the key is to move on before it consumes you and your family.

Kevin is getting the growing message that he is not wanted by much of the fan base- even the most loyal. It's got to to be getting him down after trying so hard. Eventually, his kids will start hearing it at school- not that we are Ohio State Football where this happens all the time- but it will happen.

I think he'll try to get ahead of it and move on.

Kevin is a good man- look what he did today for the GT kid- but he does not have the motivational, teaching or recruiting skills to be a successful coach in the Big East. And that's too bad for everyone when you come right down to it.

When you present "the worst case" if he's fired, you should also present the worst - not the best - case if he's retained. You know, if you're actually trying to promote rational discussion about the pros and cons of making a decision

I agree. I wanted to Willard to do well, we all did. But you just cannot have this kind of 5-year run. You can't. It's not acceptable to be 30-60. It's not acceptable to lose 39 of your 54 conference games in Years 3-5 when you're supposed to be moving upward.

I understand this "lock" talk to come back. I'll believe when I see it.

A change is necessary. You don't pick coaches based on players in college. It's too transient. You need the right guy and if he's capable, he'll keep the guys that should be here and the rest will take care of themselves.

Continental - I thought you didn't have to sit out a year if the coach is let go or leaves. Is that not accurate ?

Whether you like him or not, he really seems to be a genuine nice person. And he is someone you would like to see do well. I really can't believe what a d-bag Thompson III is.

Seton Hall will finish in the Top 3 of the BE next year and dance.

FLN repeating the same message will not make it more likely to happen.

convinced it's performance art - no other sane explanation at this point

Hey Save,

1) My " Absurd Rational " about players is based on the fact that we had a top 10 class, normally I would agree with your premise, still want to keep the class.

2) Pipe down with your wise ass comments, I was just trying to voice an opinion.

3) Go Pirates !!
