He was never gonna make Team USA. Players are constantly playing for other countries internationally simply due to heritage in soccer/football. This adds to it

His great-grandfather was Chinese. As JR mentions it's common to play for other countries if you have some lineage. What is a little surprising is that it is China. I don't believe China allows dual citizenship so not sure how this works.
