Lauren Holiday speaks on society

Everyone is against racism. America is not a racist country as a whole. If it was the number of minorities trying to enter this country legally or illegally wouldn't be happening. Are there racists in this country? Yes. Those racists come in all colors too.

Pretty divisive article as I see it. Another weak minded white person who thinks they have to apologize for who they are. Sadly, the boomers raised a generation of kids to think like this and those kids are now adults. I'd sure love to read the police report on the incident she describes and compare her side of it to that of the police.

I dismiss articles that talk about white privilege. It's a lame attempt to paint white people as benefitting from special status, which is hardly the case if you've left the northeast bubble/west coast bubble.

Just a side note, any person of any color that just pulls up to a police stop will be told to get back in the car at minimum.

Yes, another huge myth perpetuated by the media because it gets clicks and ratings.

wow calling someone who survived a significant brain surgery weak minded. this is her first hand account. I am not shocked by those that argue against the prevalence of white privilege here

i would urge many here to read the ian desmond instagram post that has been in the news cycle for the last 36 hours but i am sure he would be seen as a weak minded snow flake by the label masters here

I've never heard of her so I don't know anything about her other than what she wrote here. Her health history has nothing to do with the opinions expressed in the article.

distinguished boxing historian, far from a tool, i dont agree with some of his sports opining but a tool, come on man?

He's a tool. I've heard his hot takes over the years. As with all in the media, he wants to tell us about white priviledge. Max should give up his job to a person of color, same with Greenie and all the other talking heads who lecture the common man while they sit in their castle.

White privilege isn't really about a special benefit as much as having less obstacles on your path. Like two people running a marathon but one of you has to jump hurdles. You don't get a "benefit", you still have to run. It's not easy and many wouldn't finish... but for some people that race was more difficult than yours.

Race has nothing to do with hurdles in life. A person's family plays a huge role in these hurdles. I was lucky enough to have parents that worked multiple jobs to ensure we could go to college. Their skin color had nothing to do with working 15 hour days, driving shitty cars and living in a cheaper area of the state.

so any Caucasian on any media platform who has opinions that advocate minority oppression and opportunity are just playing an agenda and a race card?

Nope I'm just sharing that my white parents busted their ass to provide, living paycheck to paycheck to ensure their kids had better opportunities. Oh yeah, also received tickets from the police for speeding, and managed to be respectful, pay the ticket and move on with life. You're an enabler of people looking for excuses why life is unfair.

no I am like the NFL vs any of the other 3 sports leagues, I seek to give everyone a fair shake to get the prize

They do have a fair shake. Work multiple jobs, save your money, get your kids a better life than yourself. This isn't limited to white people.

"White Privilege" is another term that just used to divide and deflect from real meaningful change. Life isn't fair and some people are born with advantages that others don't have To simplify it as color of skin is the divider of all that have privilege and those that don't is absurd. Those that accuse others of being racist and creating stereotypes are making their "point" by doing just that.

I get why you would say that.
You are white and haven't experienced it, so you think it doesn't exist.
You believe your position in your life is a result of the effort you put in, and that is true. I'm not implying there are no hurdles on your path in life, but being black sometimes adds additional hurdles. That's not mean to downplay and trivialize your personal struggles.

That's what is difficult about the phrase. People hear it and believe that the work they put in wasn't difficult or that it means every white person gets a silver spoon. That is not what it means. It means there are certain parts of everyday life where being black creates a different and more difficult experience.

There is no doubt in my mind that my path was easier than it would have been if I were black.

You are nuts of you believe that.
Everyone (on here) is against racism. If you think I’m wrong, who on here supports racism? Obviously not everyone in the country is against racism. I said there are racist people in this country. And they are ALL colors.

Would you say white policemen are currently experiencing it right now?

What do you mean by "it".
We were talking about white privilege, so do you mean like overall discrimination or additional life hurdles for police officers?

It's a different discussion, and hard to compare a career choice vs the color of someones skin, but I'm always willing to give an opinion.

I do think being a police office is a very difficult job, and even more difficult right now in the current environment. I think we need better leadership (federal state and local) to help build trust between police and residents... but yes, right now a small percentage of bad police officers have made the jobs of the good police officers (the majority) much more difficult.

Whatever you meant by "it." I quoted a statement of yours that basically said you're white and haven't experienced "it". You never defined it, but I was just curious if white officers are experiencing "it"

The "it" I was referring to was in the context of the discussion with knies, and was referring to the additional hurdles faced in life if you are black.

So, are white police officers experiencing additional hurdles because they are black? No.

I'll disagree just because I think a white police officer will face more scrutiny than a black police officer just because he is white in today's climate.

I don't disagree with that, but like I said, it is a different discussion than if white privilege is real or not.

Exactly!

Example.

Two kids apply to college. Same grades, same incomes, same sports, same SATs. One is black the other white.

Guess who gets more financial aid?

Guess whose getting in if there's only 1 spot, or even worse, getting in with lower scores lol

The one who had the extra hurdles on their path?

Who has the least hurdles in their path...you, me, Lebrons children? Are hurdles based on race or economics?

personally I don’t believe the poor white kid from the trailer parks faces less hurdles than the poor black kid from the inner city. Both have big mountains to climb, but they’re also both doable. I may be wrong but I’ve never lived in both situations so I cannot be 100% certain
