sami, when they talk about backcourt depth I am assuming they are talking about the swing position as well.

Richmond, Dawes, Wusu, Sanders, Coleman, and even Davis in a pinch is quality depth for for three positions.

And FWIW when I spoke to Sada he said he is also working out as both a PF and SF.

Short of injuries I would feel every comfortable with that group.

Lot's of guys to play the 2 and 3, but there is a HUGE hole behind Richmond at PG. There is no one that can run the point at a BE level for extended minutes.

Last year I would have agreed. But watching practice, at least for one day, I saw a different Al-Amir Dawes.

Controlled throughout. Nothing like the player we saw last season. If that Dawes is what we can expect then when Richmond needs a blow I don't think it will hurt us as much as everyone thinks.

Just hope he plays like that when the lights go on and not let the environment affect him.

But isn't that the whole idea of depth? Not just for a blow, but to have someone to step in if Richmond gets in foul trouble or misses time due to injury. Dawes playing 25-30 minutes at PG would be a huge problem.

Depth means you can afford foul trouble or limited injuries. We can't afford that at the point.

How many college teams can expect that a second string PG can log 25-30 quality minutes?

Dawes, if he plays as I saw him play Friday will be quality depth at the 1. If he plays like he did last season, then yes when Richmond sits we will be in trouble.

I am going to take the optimistic view knowing Dawes is really a PG playing the 2 and hope that when he does go back to his natural position he understand what Holloway wants from him.

Benefit of the doubt for now as I would offer that Dawes as a second string PG is actually a strong advantage for the Hall.

We are talking about depth being a strength. Teams that have guys that can step in and wily play quality minutes have that depth. We don’t at the PG. If Richmond goes down for an extended period, this team is in big trouble. Any coach will press Dawes or Wusu.

You also said Dawes reverted to his head down play when fans were present. Until we see the new Dawes I can only go by what we’ve seen. Remember, I was cutting Dawes a lot of slack for last year because he was put in a bad position.

I’m going to be realistic.

Respectfully disagree.

Yes. You had Family Weekend, had a NIL event and a kickoff to the season no reason why not full.
There aren't that many empty seats in that area. I see about a half dozen in one cluster and a few scattered throughout. There are probably as many people standing as there are empty seats. Chances are if it were me, I would have stood rather than climb over somebody to sit.

Last year was the first year that Walsh was stuffed for open practice and that was more because it was Shaheen's homecoming. Even during the best of the Willard years the place wasn't full.

And, yes, I'm sure the weather was a factor. Last year University Day was a beautiful day. This year, not so much. I opted out of a three-hour round trip for a 45-minute or so "practice" partly because I didn't want to deal with the weather. I'm sure I'm not the only one who decided they didn't want to deal with the weather.
