South Orange, N.J. – After helping guide the Pirates to one of their best seasons in program history, the Pirates' coaching staff consisting of Andreas Lindberg, Jeff Matteo, Ali Simmons and Dan Solli have been named the East Regional Staff of the Year, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday.
Lindberg and his crew helped lead the program to its first BIG EAST Tournament Championship since 1991 with a 2-1 win over then-second ranked Georgetown at Shaw Field. The team also made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005 as the number six overall seed. The Pirates would go on to win two games in the tournament to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for only the second time in program history and first since 1988.
The Pirates currently sit at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. This is the highest ranking for The Hall since they ended the 1988 season in the No. 3 slot. It's the second highest ranking in school history. It is the Pirates' first season being ranked top-25 nationally since 2006.
The Hall was also able to complete an unbeaten regular season at Owen T. Carroll field with a 6-0-1 mark in South Orange. Despite it being an abbreviated regular season, the Pirates completed the 2020 campaign with a 10-2-4 record, their first double-digit win season since 2005.
With the East Regional honor under their belt, the Pirates' staff is now eligible to be placed on the ballot for the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year consideration. The staff was one of 43 staffs to win the award across men's and women's college soccer teams at all three levels.
Under Lindberg and his staff, five Pirates were named to All-BIG EAST Teams: CJ Tibbling (Jarna, Sweden), Luca Dahn (Kahl, Germany), Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy), JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) and Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany). Tibbling and Dahn were also named First Team All-East Region by the United Soccer Coaches. The staff was also named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the year as voted upon by the conference's coaches.
