The next event is coming to NJ at the end of the month. With Paul Casey jumping ship, who do you think will be the next few players to leave the PGA Tour? I'd go with Sam Burns, Jhonattan Vegas, Joaquin Niemann, Jason Kokrak, Dylan Frittelli, Adam Scott and Daniel Berger.

Wish the equipment sponsors would pull the plug on these guys. That would help put a stop to it. The majors, specifically the Masters, coming out and saying LIV players won't be allowed would also be good thing.

I’ll say Cantlay and Deki.

Certainly possible, that's what the sports betting markets are saying.

How is LIV creating their fields? Are they capped at 48? If so, how do they determine who plays each event as clearly more than 48 players have joined on.

Greedy slobs.
Yeah, capitalism and free markets are awful concepts 🫤

Don’t blame anyone for pursuing their trade. They owe nothing to the PGA. You think the PGA couldn’t up their purses if they’d like to?

I honestly have no idea. The whole thing seems to be put together with duct tape right now.

Agreed. Like anyone here would turn down a guarantee likely to far to easily exceed career winnings.

NJ event at Trump National in Bedminster. Get ready for a tweet shit-storm…lol

Exactly.

For most PGA players, they grind it out each week and make a fraction of the big names. If you look at the results of the typical week, you don't recognize 60% or more of the names. The "journeymen" as they are called are needed to fill the field but their average winnings don't go far when they add in caddy, transportation, hotel and meals, etc. Guys that can afford it may get to fly (coach) or drive home Sunday night only to be on the road again Monday night to make next weeks practice round. If they miss the cut, the get to spend more time with family but with no money and a bunch of money spent.

Given the the choice of that versus guaranteed income far more than what they will likely earn on tour, why would anyone fault them?

The average golfer dreams and think it would be fun to be a touring golf pro. The reality of the lifestyle for most of them is much less glamorous than people think. Sure they love the game and for a young guy it would be great for a few years. As you get into your thirties and start thinking about the future, staying on tour becomes a risky life decision. Unless they are savvy and develop alternate income streams, they risk a bleak future.

The PGA has had a monopoly on the sport, as does the NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, etc.. Unless the PGA changes its ways, golfers will continue to jump.

This reminds me of the big split that happened in Indy Racing a few years back. Eventually they got is sorted out.

To make that point, Mark O’Meara was staying at the Hampton Inn in Bethlehem last week for the US Senior Open…$90 a night!

LIV goes dark for three weeks. Will lose any noise that they've created. Should be named the Pre-Champions Tour as it has a lot of late 40 something dudes that haven't contended in quite some time - like Polts, Casey, Louis O, Brendan Grace. Will be interesting to see the crowds at the Jersey event and how many are actually paid patrons as the Masters refers to them. The gate is inflated by freebies. I wouldn't go if given a ticket. 54 hole tourney is an exhibition. I don't blame them for grabbing the huge money but it isn't a real golf tournament.

Not a fan of LIV or Saudis. Players should stop BSing and just say they are doing it for the money. Hope the Saudis figure out they are getting a bad deal and end it. Most players going are washed up or struggling. What does that say? Phil pisses me off the most. I was a big fan and he’s made FU money but he still allows himself to get bought by a scummy regime. I guess his gambling losses are too high. Or he continues to think he’s the smartest guy in the room. And it’s not about improving the PGA. That’s just more BS. They can certainly improve but to say that is why you are leaving is complete BS. It’s for the money. Have some balls and say it.

Looks like the Saudi’s don’t care….it’s like a toy to them to host elites. Did you ever see the F1 races in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi? There’s like no one in the stands. They have an unlimited budget and don’t care about making money.

I’m a purest and won’t watch. To me, golf is about traditions, the majors and some of the other events. This is like an extended exhibition like you said. That being said, there are a lot of young (thank you COVID), golfers and I don’t know what’s important to them.

Taking money from the Saudis is sad. Some people have principles, but hey, Dustin Johnson needs to feed his family.

Enjoy the way your Nike stuff fits?

Seriously, if you were making $100,000 a year in your job and a Saudi-based company offered you $10 million guaranteed to do the same thing, you’re turning that down?

Think about it too… LIV will cause PGA to pony up for these journeymen or the top talent will move to LIV and the middle of the PGA will rise. More fringe players making the field and getting a payday. Free market.

What exactly do people have a problem with regarding LIV? Source of funding? Please, until you stop wearing clothing made in Vietnam, Laos, China, Bangladesh and other countries that are on par with Saudi Arabia or any other products used imported into our country, LIV is not really the enemy you’re making it out to be.

If you’re for capitalism, how can you be against people using their ability and hard work to get ahead?

It’s literally the antithesis of hard work and/or using ability..it’s guaranteed money, win lose or draw. Do you think DJ or BK will practice again in their life?

One aspect that cannot be denied is that (currently) almost every player is the among the least liked player on tour and mostly major “tools”. Except PM but his act was such a farce that if you fell for that over the past 30 years idk what to tell you. Read about PM and bones relationship over his career.

They wouldn’t be invited if their ability and prior work didn’t make them a famed person of interest for LIV.

I don’t fault anyone for how they feel they should pursue their livelihood. I don’t see anyone on this board being invited to play, so there must be something to it. And frankly I don’t care if it is golf’s form of WWE, an exhibition. Many on these boards gush about that entertainment.

Again that’s not true..some of them didn’t even have Korn Ferry status. The exact opposite of “earning” anything. They took a hand out. I don’t blame them per se. although DJ and his wife have a net worth of about 400 mil so for him to say it’s about feeding his family is crazy.

this has become the golden parachute of golf. I don’t think DJ and BK even like golf.

The biggest problem is none of them will admit it’s just a money grab.

the first tournament the kid Piot couldn’t break 80. How long will the Saudis put up with that?

Probably not long, but I don’t knock them for grabbing the easy money while it’s there. The PGA foot stomping makes it a bigger story than it is.

are these guys obligated to do anything for the PGA. no brainer take the money. any other opinion is sour grapes.

I sort of disagree again. I think the fact that these guys left (good for them) but want to remain on the PGA Tour is ridiculous and causing a lot of the bad blood. They should take their money and leave. Can’t have it both ways

Frankly, I don’t give a crap. I play golf, I don’t watch golf, and everyone throwing hissy fits is a side story to me.
And let me guess, you don’t agree with that.

I play golf, I do watch golf (mostly majors), but I have very little interest to watch LIV.

But I’m in my 60’s and have no idea what a 20-30 year old fan values.

One way to limit LIV would be for the equipment sponsors to cut ties with these guys. Koepka is still out there in Nike garb, Johnson still wearing Adidas and TaylorMade everywhere. McDowell with Srixon featured prominently. Wish the equipment sponsors would grow a spine and cut ties.

What a coincidence,Biden goes to Saudi begging for oil and his lapdog AG starts an investigation into PGA anti competitive practices.Amazing Garland was a judge but won’t enforce law protecting judges ,but he is right there for his boss on parents in school board meetings and the big bad PGA.
