ESPN is now reporting that a book will be published soon, that details years of recruiting violations
at Louisville. Among the most serious allegations is that a woman named Katina Powell hired numerous strippers and prostitutes to entertain prospects for the basketball team.
Powell and her 3 daughters are among numerous women involved.

Powell freely admits these accusations.
She claims she was paid about 10K for her service as coordiwnator for the parties to help
influence the recruits.
She has many photos with recruits on the Louisville campus.

Pitino says that he is unaware of these activities.

The NCAA will be so mad, they will punish Eastern Kentucky severely.

And why do you think Louisville is the only school that does this. Things of this nature are commonplace in big time college athletics.

Shoreguy, I am not upset.
This occurs at many leading ball factories, I am sure.
What is entertaining is how the hypocrites at the NCAA will handle this.
They need an excuse to not do anything to their golden gooses, like Louisville.
It will be interesting to see how they contrive to sweep this image problem away, and to put Louisville on double secret probation.
Of course, if this happened at Morehead State or Monmouth, the programs would be shut down already.

The NCAA has grown teeth this past year, so I would be very worried if I were Pitino. All coaches have to learn from what happened to Cuse and SMU. My understanding is that what happened at UNC is more of a violation of academic accreditation and not an NCAA rule, so who knows what will happen with them.

Wonder if Ms Powell is the same person slick Ricky played table bingo with a few years back? Maybe that's how she got her start in the "escort" the the players business.

You guys have to read this.

It's long but it's entertaining.

The hookers were also having sex with the fathers of some of the recruits. You know, they say fathers should be active with their sons.

These activities are not only major NCAA recruiting violations, but there are multiple and repeated crimes committed. It went on for years.

There is no way the coaching staff did not know about this. If heads don't roll and arrests made, then...

Well, Louisville left the Big East conference because of greater shared values with the ACC.
That's what their longstanding AD and president said.

So the ACC sure has some aberrant values, as demonstrated by the numerous academic scandals
at the flagship ACC school, North Carolina and the near morons that Clemson has produced as graduates for multiple generations.

Given Louisville fabulous recruiting techniques, it's possible to wonder if the illustrious Julie Herrmann of Rutgers fame,
learned how to get recruiting done from her colleagues at UL, before her being deposited
at Rutgers by the same mentors who overlooked the mess of illegality and immorality.

This revelation may get LRHS off the front page of ESPN for a little while, unfortunately.
But I am hoping that ESPN will tie Julie Herrmann to her Louisville past, and dig into what she
knew or should have known in her Assistant AD post at UL during the prime period of violations.

If I understand correctly, the woman whom Caroo threw to the ground after the Rutgers/Kansas game was one of many hostesses hired by Rutgers to play "hostess" to the Rutgers football players. This at least is what was reported recently in the Star Ledger. Somehow this got buried behind the breaking and entry episodes by many other members of the RU footbsll team.

Unfortunately, this new story explains why Willard was considered effective in recruiting at Louisville,
but has struggled to recruit at Seton Hall.

I wonder how the bigwigs at Seton Hall who hired Willard based on Pitino ' recommendation and lobbying,
now feel about their reliance on Pitino.

I doubt this will influence them.

Totally bogus, ignorant and ridiculous comment about our coach.

This story has ZERO to do with him, and nobody here has any information at all to show that it does.

Did you even bother to read the long article? If you did you would know that Willard was not there when this was happening.

It is ridiculous to think that similar activities were NOT likely to be ongoing for many years previously at Louisville. These shenanigans were most likely more aggressive forms of previous traditions.

Just like at Michigan, payments to players by boosters did not begin with Chris Webber.
There was a long tradition of boosters giving Michigan players extra benefits, just not obscene amounts as with Webber. I believe a good investigation would reveal that many of the Michigan players Seton Hall faced in the NCAA championship game, especially Rice and Robinson, should have been disqualified for receiving many illegal benefits.

Steve Fischer did not begin to cheat with Chris Webber and Louisville did not suddenly begin to cheat 4 years ago.

If these allegations are true it is absurd to think that lowly Director of Operations organized these on activies without the knowledge, if not involvement, of other members of the staff. Directors of Basketball Operation do not make much money and I can't believe that he paid the escorts out of his own pocket. The question is, does he take the weight or tell of the involvement of others ?

Please do tell what happened, because I don't remember anything near this happening at Charlie V's official and I would know.....

" Willard did not recruit when he was at Louisville " .

How can anyone say that. Kevin was an assistant coach at Louisville for 6 years and rose to the position of associate head coach and you're saying he never got involved in recruiting? What assistant coach , let alone the associate head coach , doesn't get involved in recruiting. It's not like he was a former head coach with 30 years of experience who served as a bench coach, ala a George Blaney.

Rick P said he was sick to his stomach over this. It allegedly happened in Minardi Hall, named after his brother-in-law who worked at Cantor in WTC on 9/11. Did Rick turn a blind eye? How high does this go up? was what Woodward and Bernstein asked, and then the now famous line of questioning, what did he know and when did he know it? Unlikely we'll ever get to the truth on this.

This situation is different because the payment made to individuals to provide sexual favors violates criminal statutes . If the will is there to do so either the State's Attorney or local District Attorney has the authority to convene a Grand Jury which gives them the ability to issue subpoena's to collect records and compel individuals to appear and testify before that Grand Jury. Whether that happens is anyone's guess but if the media puts enough pressure on they may be compelled to do so and if that happens we may actually learn more then in other situations .

Raritan thinks the public will never know the truth.

I think the public will know the truth, based on the many text messages and photos referenced by the publisher.
Denial by Pitino and the Louisville AD is implausible to any observer with common sense.

What is uncertain is whether legal charges will be brought and proven to the satisfaction of a jury, in a jurisdiction that treats Pitino
and UL athletes, as folk heroes.

Dave we likely already know the nub of the truth from this story--and that's more than enough for me. Will it ever escalate into something more? As Hallgrad80 said, it's anyone's guess. Not to split hairs, Dave, but I never say never. That's why I said, "unlikely." But if it gets looked into by the authorities, so be it. I'm a Pirate fan, not a Cardinal fan.

Good thing no Hall player has ever been involved with prostitutes.

Her AND her daughters performed and had sex? Kardashians Ky style.
Least it's a family business.

Louisville basketball players huddle up before the 2013 NCAA Men's Final Four Semifinal.

Louisville campus police now say they are reviewing allegations that a former men’s basketball staffer hired escorts to dance and have sex with recruits and players in a dormitory.

Katina Powell has alleged in a book released online over the weekend that former Cardinals director of basketball operation Andre McGee paid her $10,000 for dancers to perform 22 shows from 2010-14 at the players’ Billy Minardi Hall dormitory. The school reported those allegations to the NCAA and has launched an investigation.

“The University of Louisville Police Department, in consultation with the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, is reviewing allegations regarding the men’s basketball program,” University police chief Wayne Hall said Tuesday in a statement.

It was the first confirmation that police are looking into the allegations. When contacted last week, a campus police operator said they weren’t aware of the book allegations, and it was unclear at that time if an investigation had been launched.

Cardinals coach Rick Pitino has said that McGee denied Powell’s allegations.

McGee left in 2014 and is currently an assistant at Missouri-Kansas City, which has put him on paid leave.

Pitino said Saturday that he hasn’t read Powell’s book titled “Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen” and doesn’t plan to. The 104-page book was published by an affiliate of the Indianapolis Business Journal and is scheduled for hardcover release Oct. 12.

The woman said that she and three of her daughters, along with other women, danced and stripped for Louisville recruits and players and performed sex acts with them, according to the book. Powell, 43, also said McGee offered recruits alcohol at those parties.

Upon hearing of the allegations, Pitino said he did some investigating on his own before being told by the school’s compliance department not to talk to players. But the coach said he talked to other assistants about the allegations and all of them denied knowing of the activities outlined in Powell’s book.

“I’m going through 15 people who worked here, and not one person even had a premonition of something wrong,” Pitino said. “Not one person living in the dorm had even the slightest premonition. It just doesn’t make sense to me.”

Louisville has hired Chuck Smrt of the Compliance Group, which assists schools in NCAA cases, to review the allegations.

McGee left Louisville in 2014 to become an assistant at Missouri-Kansas City under Kareem Richardson, who was a Cardinals assistant from 2012-13. He was placed on paid administrative on Friday and has been unavailable for comment. McGee’s Louisville attorney, Scott Cox, didn’t comment because the investigation is ongoing.

A former Louisville recruit, who met with NCAA investigators this week, reportedly has confirmed the allegations that a former team staff member hired strippers and escorts for prospective basketball players.

According to CBS Sports, a source with knowledge of the investigation said Ohio State freshman JaQuan Lyle “told the truth,” when questioned about what allegedly happened during his June 2013 recruiting visit to Louisville. Lyle, a five-star recruit, committed to Louisville a few weeks after the trip, but ended up de-committing. Another former Louisville recruit, Antonio Blakeney of LSU, reportedly also has been interviewed by the NCAA.

The allegations were levied in the recently released book, “Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen,” in which former self-described madam Katina Powell wrote that she provided four escorts to perform a “show” for Lyle, in a rendezvous arranged by former Louisville staff member Andre McGee, who is on leave from his job as an assistant at Missouri-Kansas City while the investigation continues.

“Been a long time since we’ve been up to U of L to do a show,” Powell wrote. “McGee texted me like, what’s up? He wanted me to bring three girls up there for a new recruit named JaQuan Lyle, he and his friend. I took [escorts] Rod-Ni, TooTall, Jazmine and Shay, who calls herself Sammi. TooTall made $100, Shay made $100, and Jazzy made nothing because she did absolutely nothing.”

According to Yahoo! Sports, Lyle’s eligibility for the upcoming season shouldn’t be in jeopardy.

“It does not affect us or JaQuan at all,” Ohio State associate athletic director for communications, Dan Wallenberg, told Yahoo! Sports. “We’ve been told, and are pretty confident, this is not something we need to worry about.”

Louisville coach Rick Pitino has denied any knowledge of the alleged prostitute procurement happening under his nose.
