Not a lot of hype when we signing Malachi Brown but have been impressed with him as a pass first point. I know it’s early and not yet sure it will translate against better teams but he looks very comfortable on the floor. Looking forward to seeing him progress this season.

There was 0 hype because there was 0 info on him. Completely unknown in the recruiting world. Interesting how some players can completely slip through the cracks

I also like the kid. He's small but he can play.Doesn't get rushed or intimidated.
Reminds me of a player we see at a mid major in March and we all say how did we not land that guy. I think if you like watching a player develop he’s going to be fun to watch. I expect him to struggle with bigger more physical guards this year but I think he’s got real potential as he gets stronger.

Our 1st true PG in a long time, team first playmaker. I'm impressed with his ball handling and acceleration on the drive.
We seem to say this a lot, especially after our "true" PGs leave.
Agree he looked good; more so than on Sat.: Coleman, too.
Wish we could see them in at least one warm-up game against mid-level competition, though.

It's a long season and we'll see how successful these two freshman will be. They both have ability and that doesn't change from one opponent to another, their success rate may change against quality opponents. We'll know a lot more come March.

I am pretty confident that Coleman will be a major player off the bench (with Sanders). Malachi looked good last night. Coleman excels on the other end and seems to have a nose for rebounds similarto Kadary.

Besides Jordan Walker who was itching a little too hard to get his feet wet Brown looks better then we have seen for years.

I would take him over Eron Gordon, Jahari Long, Anthony Nelson, and Ryan Conway.

You have to take it all in context though he's looking good against lesser caliber teams, but the shot looks nice, he's poised and looks confident.

All in all he really recovered from his welcome to college basketball moment in getting posterized against St Peters.

What’s his background and recruiting story? He looks like a legit composed and crafty PG.

Question is going to be his defense and be prepared he will not see the floor much if he can't defend at the level Sha expects. Rightfully so. We all know damn well we're not playing the pace we played last night against Marquette or Creighton and winning. We're going to have to win those games in ugly, physical, old school big east basketball style. So the young guys are going to have to prove they can defend and play through contact on both sides of the court.

Not to be a downer, but last nights game while it gets some guys more playing time, gives others a rest, is a nice showing for the fans, it does little to prepare for the big east because we're not that kind of team to play that style vs Big East teams and sustain success. We may win a game or 2 that way, but we're a slug it out, defensive team that is designed to win by frustrating offenses.

This. You can definitely see traits in players and have to build them, but the speed/athleticism/physicality of the game that’s going to hit them when they step up in class is dizzying for many. So cautiously optimistic. Plus these guys are all so inexperienced.

We had a season in 2012-13 where the team went 11-2 against a week non-conference… Then 3-15 in the BE even after starting 1-0. 🤷‍♂️ 🤣

Love your last point. Albany has a Kenpom ranking of #309 today and Wagner #301. It’s why, for me at least, it’s more productive to take the bad out of these games than the good. I think Sha sees is that way too given his comments last night about starting slowly.

When he turned the ball over against St. Pete and got posterized, I thought it was the best lesson for a young player. To be in the ESPN Top 10 for the wrong reason, can be a big wake up call and motivator.

Can we pump the brakes a little and see what he looks like against someone a little better than the 3rd string Albany team last night?
I get your point but want to add that our subs didnt score a point against NJIT in that scrimmage. Three subs with double figures is very unuual. That D against us last night was not good for sure!

Coaches are never satisfied and are always looking for the impossible, perfection.

But there are a ton of good things to take from these early season games.

Just look at the progress made in a couple of short weeks when we looked pitiful vs NJIT with the bench scoring zero points. They scored 39 last night against a better opponent.

Coleman in particular did not look like a prime time player and last night showed glimpses of being a future Big East star.

Bediako who had 4 fouls in about 7 minutes against NJIT is starting to look like a decent 5 with the possibility that he could at least hold his own against Big East comp.

Richmond, Dawes, Davis and Wusu make a quality starting 4 and now there is hope that maybe Holloway can go 9-10 deep in his rotations. Something that would have been laughed at just a couple of weeks ago

Sanders is starting to be close to 100% from his ankle injury and played his best game last night.

Everyone understands that the competition has been terrible, But there is now hope that this team will be able to compete against what most of us deem as superior opponents.

You cannot take a lot out of what we have seen to date, but you can certainly see potential. Potential that most scoffed at in the pre-season exhibition in Oct.

I'd like Brown to break out and be our bkup point as much as anyone. Wusu and/or Dawes backing up the point is not the answer.

We got people literally saying I'll take the kid who played well in one game over every other backup guard we had in last 10 years. It's ludicrous.

Be happy... but be sane.

You're point is well taken, but Albany stayed with their top 8 players for 193 of the 200 available minutes. There was no third string.

The way to look at this is that the our bench outplayed Albany's starters, and we held our own with 3 walk-ons on the court.

The way to look at it is we're not a team designed to play at that pace. It was a nice showing, it worked well vs Albany's 1st and 2nd string but throw it out the window.

Abany was worse than I thought... ;)

Conway was never in the picture. Way too early to even mention him in same conversation with Nelson, Long, and Gordon. If he has as good a career as Nelson, we should be thrilled.
