Rhoden Named Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team
NEW YORK - Senior guard Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) has been named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST first team, the conference announced Tuesday at its Media Day inside Madison Square Garden. The vote was conducted by the BIG EAST's 11 head coaches, who were prohibited from voting for their own student-athletes.
This is the seventh straight year that Seton Hall has had at least one student-athlete voted Preseason All-BIG EAST.
A versatile wing that has developed into a team leader over three seasons in South Orange, Rhoden has steadily improved statistically as he went from averaging 3.4 points per game as a freshman, 9.1 points as a sophomore, to 14.9 points as a junior. He also averaged 6.7 rebounds per contest and started in all 27 games last season. Rhoden was named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team after averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in helping the Pirates reach the semifinals. In the quarterfinals against St. John's, Rhoden pulled down 16 rebounds, a total that matched a Seton Hall BIG EAST Tournament record. At the charity stripe, Rhoden led the Pirates with an .833 free throw shooting percentage and won the BIG EAST free throw shooting title with a .908 percentage in 19 conference games.
Including Rhoden, the Pirates return four of their top six scorers from last season, add four transfers who have combined for over 1,400 career Div. I points scored and bring in a top-25 rated freshman recruiting class that will help them once again compete for another conference championship and NCAA Tournament bid.

The preseason poll was voted on by the league's 11 head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team. The Pirates accrued 68 points and Villanova was tabbed the preseason favorite, followed by Connecticut, Xavier and St. John's.
More often than not, Seton Hall either meets or exceeds the coaches' preseason prediction. The Pirates have exceeded their preseason poll rank 20 times and have finished in the exact spot it was predicted to land 12 times. There have been only 10 instances in 42 seasons in the BIG EAST has The Hall not at least met its preseason expectation. In head coach Kevin Willard's 11 seasons, the Pirates have met or exceeded their preseason poll rank eight times.
Led by Willard, who has guided The Hall to six 20-win seasons, four NCAA Tournaments and two BIG EAST Championships, the Pirates return four of their top six scorers from last season, add four transfers who have combined for over 1,400 career Div.
