The indictment against Melendez was a sham. I was very confident that he would be acquitted. The allegations against him were not criminal. However, where he went wrong was that he failed to report the 16 or 17 flights that he received from his friend. Now, if he reports it, there is nothing illegal or ethically wrong about it. However, by saying it was only a couple of flights, that is an ethical issue for sure.
This is a shame because Menendez happens to be one of the brightest Senators out there. I think in this election he is very vulnerable and it is based on a self inflicted wound. But, I do not put any credence into the indictment.

For whatever reason SCOUTS gave all politians a safety high conviction bar in the McDonald case so much so that Sheldon Silver convicted for bribery had his conviction overturned on appeal.He just got convicted
Again which hopefully appellate court will not overturn.You pretty much have to have quid pro quo on tape

Dropped case against him because they had no quid pro quo on tape only had someone who pleaded guilty
To bribery offer avadavit tha Billy boy promised him something in return for large campaign contributions

It was not a sham at all, and he is an unconvicted criminal. If he were a white Republican, you'd be frothing at the mouth. That kangaroo court with a very sympathetic jury was an absolute joke.
Completely untrue. I also said the same thing with Republican Governor McDonald. Has nothing to do with the politics just the law and the facts.
There is no question that Menendez did some very questionable things ethically, but the criminal case against him was very weak. Many legal experts were surprised that the case was not thrown out on motion before it got to the jury.
As to his performance as a Senator he was not one who voted straight party line. He did vote against Obama's agenda on a number of occasions. Specifically the treaty with Iran and also the Obama administration position on restoring relations with Cuba.
