Hall Announces Full 2015 Slate
13 of the Pirates' 16 opponents next season finished among the top-100 in the final RPI rankings last fall
June 3, 2015
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. --Following a campaign in which his squad dropped just one of its final six matches while navigating through one of the premier conferences in the country, Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer and fourth-year head coach
Gerson Echeverry announced the entire 2015 Seton Hall men's soccer schedule on Wednesday.
The 16-match slate features seven home dates at Owen T. Carroll Field and will once again see the Pirates tackle one of the most difficult schedules in the nation.
In 2014, the BIG EAST cemented itself among the elite men's soccer leagues by sending four teams to the NCAA Tournament, three of which advanced to the national quarterfinals. The Hall closed the season with a tremendous postseason push of its own, going 2-1-3 down the stretch during a run that included a landmark victory over third-ranked Georgetown and the program's first win at St. John's in nearly 25 years.
The late surge helped Seton Hall finish as one of seven BIG EAST squads in the top-70 of the final RPI rankings. Overall, the conference boasted four teams that ranked among the top-15 and all but one finished inside the top-100 in the end-of-season tally.
What lies ahead for the 2015 side is a schedule that calls for seven matches against NCAA Tournament participants from a year ago. In addition to the daunting round-robin conference schedule, five of the Pirates' seven non-league opponents also earned a spot in the RPI top-100; pushing the total to 13 such opponents for next season.
The tests begin right from the first whistle as The Hall opens with home exhibition matches against Atlantic-10 champions Fordham (Aug. 20) and Saint Peter's (Aug. 23). Echeverry's group will kick-off the regular season at the College of Charleston Tournament, taking on the host Cougars (Aug. 28) in the opener before meeting reigning SoCon champs Furman two days later.
Rider and Delaware will travel to South Orange for the Pirates' first two home appearances of 2015 with matches scheduled for September 4 and September 9 respectively. Seton Hall will hit the road for its final two matches prior to the start of conference play, traveling to take on another pair of league champions in Bucknell (Patriot) and Monmouth (Metro-Atlantic).
The contests with the Bison (Sept. 13) and Hawks (Sept. 22) are separated by more than a week allowing The Hall to host its Alumni match on Friday, September 18 (7:00 p.m).
The Pirates will look to get off to a fast start in conference play with Creighton (Sept. 26) and St. John's (Oct. 3) coming to Owen T. Carroll Field in the first two league matches of the season.
After visiting Princeton (Oct. 6) in its seventh and final non-conference outing of the season, SHU will head to Marquette (Oct. 10) to open a five-match swing in which they will alternate between home and way. DePaul (Oct. 14) and Butler (Oct. 24) will make the trip to the Garden State during the stretch which also calls for trips to Providence (Oct. 17) and Georgetown (Oct. 28).
Seton Hall will also travel to Xavier on October 31 before closing the regular season at home against Villanova on Thursday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m.
The 2015 BIG EAST Tournament will again feature the top-six teams in the final league standings. The top two seeds will automatically advance to the semifinal round while the remaining qualifying teams will open up tournament play on November 8. Semifinal contests are scheduled to be held on November 12, ahead of the championship on November 15.
Matches throughout the BIG EAST Tournament will be hosted by the higher seed.
