Came across this story of Vander Blue. So interesting. This proves to everyone that say coaches and players don't read message boards, so watch what you say. Don't post anything you would not say to the player/coaches face

Kevin Willard, this Seton Hall job is not going so well. I don't ever see you winning here, and I question your coaching. I really wish you would have taken the Holy Cross job a few weeks ago, or just decided to get any job anywhere else, so that we could move on. I wish they would replace you with Danny or Bobby Hurley. Ok I feel better saying exactly what I would say to his face.

You guys need to go to other message boards and read some of the awful things that are said about the player, recruits and coach. You would not see the "good luck Sina" " good like KA" threads or " willard is going to turn things around" threads on any other message boards like you do here after 5 terrible seasons.
As far as willard goes, other message boards have been unanimous the past 5 years that he is a bad coach and recruiter. And yet until a few months ago he has had the support of the fan base, and has been praised and defended here.

If message boards influence recruits that much, then we should have had top recruiting classes each year.

Most message boards can be brutal. That you cite an article from 2009 may actually say no matter what is said the chatter doesn't have much of an effect.

I rather doubt it. The best thing for Blue is that he went to Marquette. Unfortunately it did not turn out as well for Marquette.

I think there is still a lesson to be learned here. Some of the vitriol on this board can be over the top and posters should think about what they write. It's never going to be perfect though in the world of message boards.

There is so often a lack of balance on this board. Constructive criticism is one thing. But the barrage of negativity is awful, so destructive.

From my experience I can tell you many coaches read message boards as do potential recruits and current players. I know for a fact there are two SHU Assistants who read these boards all the time and have used whats said as reasons to be sour towards people. I know that the past Rutgers Coaches had a no talk to list that all coaches had to agree to. I know because those coaches told me after the entire staff was fired! In fact one coach was a former players who refused to not talk to people who helped him in his development and suffered by being left out of the circle. Dan, SPK and Sal know exactly what I am talking about! Even Danny Hurley read the various boards inn the past because he actually knew I had said I wish my Grandson would have an opportunity to play for him! I only said it on the message boards. Also some Head Coaches have others read the boards for them and report back.

Crazy as it sounds people are influenced by the message boards, tweets, and what is said in the seats of the arena. Jay Wright once said to me about his recruit initials KW, "I keep reading he is not good enough" Of course KW never attended
after committing and went to Arizona State b4 finishing up at Drake University. Jay listened to what others were saying and was influenced.

Message boards can be dangerous which is why no one should knock a kids ability outright! Maybe a hint of disappointment, but not anything harsh! Attitude stuff? Yes! Also remember PARENTS also read the boards and some stuff, again from experience, is so hurtful. Coach bashing is another story lol. They get paid enough to take it!

Other boards are bad, but this one is about the worst. People on Pirates Crew post the same thing over and over, often in a mean-spirited fashion. Some of you want the coach to lose his job. I understand that. But why keep posting the exact same thing everyday? Don't you folks have lives?

Couldn't be more wrong. This Board is so much better than most especially with posts regarding players. I don't know which specific boards you are comparing Pirate Crew, so maybe enlighten us.

Until the coaching and leadership situation improves, I don't begrudge anyone from posting what they feel.

I don't know why everyone compares this to other boards that not the point. I understand that other boards are bad, however I am just saying that as a student at the Hall I can not believe the hatred thrown at people on this board.

Its sad that the good fans that we have are the ones not posting on here, however the recruits only see this, a bunch of old men who love destroying college players and coaches .

I understand that coach Willard has not done a great job, but I hate how half of the posters pretend that they know so much about the program and basketball, when in reality they don't know anything college basketball wise.

There are posters who post positive things that are productive, and talk about news, and some who do know basketball,

however the majority just post things that only do more harm than good.

what is the point of posting 500 bad posts about Willard everyday. The negativity has no objective other than complaining

Yeah, it would be crazy if a poster came on here and said that the Big East Rookie of the Year, who was playing out of position all year, was the worst rim protector in the country and a reason for the season's collapse. Hopefully recruits would never read something as damaging as that on here.

Serious for a moment. Almost all of the negative energy on this board is thrown towards the coach. Most who want him gone right now have the reasoning that we have a talented roster and want a coach who will not squander it. I do not see how that is in any way an attack on the players.

Singling someone out for one weakness in their game as a freshman is an attack on a player.
