why are we not having midnight madness this year ? Isn't it a tradition for almost every program?

As noted recently on the Trove Seton Hall will have some kind of event for the students but it won't be a traditional MM.

SH has season long madness. What more could you ask for?

Vegas pj. Does every response need to be a stupid negative comment ? Your obviously don't like yourself very much. Were you beat up every day growing up? Your one of the reasons why the team has a social media ban. Why don't you try something new and be a little optimistic. You may actually enjoy life a little.

A well organized , packed gym at a midnight madness with a popular performer, group etc is a positive recruiting tool and a good way to get your student body enthused about the coming season and used to generate a lot of talk about what recruits would be there. So what are we at SH talking about, why we don't have one.

I wonder how many P5, BE, A10, AAC schools are not doing a Midnight Madness Event...
Whether we're doing a midnight madness event or something else, it is kind of curious that nothing has been announced yet. SHU always seems to either be doing something last minute or in stealth mode.

Chris Mullin introduced to a packed house at Carnesecca Arena for Red Storm Tip-Off #SJUBB @nba

That's why SJU will turn the corner. This event shows how much the University stands behind their team and brings forth a sense of togetherness within the school, alumni, and community. The recruits will eat this stuff up! We need someone that has a vision to put on an event like this.

This seems to be something the AD would be all over.

The team should have some type of an event. I guess they'll have something with
the students included. On the other hand it doesn't help you play frontcourt defense
in the last few minutes of a game in February.

A day late and a dollar short seems to be the norm for SH when it comes to recognizing what you have to do to promote your program, energize your fan base and attract recruits to take a look at you. Look at all the positives coming from SJU's Midnight Madness and how much "ink" that program has attracted in the short time Mullin has been its coach. Obviously SJU , it's AD , coaching staff and its administration get it .

For a program that's been as irrelevant as ours has been for as long as it has been you would expect it to use every tool available to attract recruits to look at your program , energize your fan base and a very attractive Midnight Madness can do that. IMO another whiff by our athletic department.

Wow, what a ridiculous overreaction. Vegaspj's comment was genuinely funny. It did not come off as cruel. Your post, on the other hand, came off as very personal and quite cruel. There is no excuse for a personal attack...it's also a violation of the rules of this board.

We most likely don't have any recruits who we can invite to midnight madness...maybe we'll have one to celebrate willard's 7th year of losing.

I wish people like mjs248 and others would simply be mature enough to open their minds to the POSSIBILITY that there are other factors involved other than their pre-occupation with MBB and Kevin Willard's supposed ineptitude. This is a huge event for numerous winter athletes and many hundreds of students. What if last year's event resulted in unfortunate developments for the students that we know nothing about? (Drunkenness, drugs, fights, sexual assaults, dangerous outsiders trying to crash, etc. etc. etc.), It would DEMAND that the administration reconsider the event despite the anguish it would cause dozens of middle-aged posters who ALWAYS know better than the professional educators involved.

Awesome...reminds me of Thursday nights in the late 70's after the oub closed and we were all out on south orange ave.

So your answer is either do nothing and say nothing about it or do something last minute and don't say anything about it. The issue is more around poor communication and I haphazard way of doing things. This is where Lyons has to do a better job.

So the hundreds of other University's administrations are not mature or experienced enough to not recognize the inherent dangers in any event they sponsor , something I seriously doubt and yet those hundreds of Universities are moving forward and having their Midnight Madnesses. There is nothing wrong that I see in posters questioning how SH is dealing with an event that has become part of the college landscape and why it doesn't appear to recognize the value and benefits that could be derived from having a highly successful Midnight Madness and what is necessary to achieve that success.

Has anyone here ever had a great time at a midnight madness at shu? I attended 2 during the dehere years and they were just slightly better than being completely boring back then. And that was with NCAA and McDonalds all Americans on the court.
If John calipari decided to be our coach next year, I would think they would have a madness event, but with our team now I'm OK with SHU doing something a little different.

I could care less about midnight madness. Not many recruits are going to pick a school because they have a great midnight madness. It doesn't help us win any games either. It's a pep rally. If they do something fun for the students to get out and support our teams at some point that is all that matters.

So Boston's reaction to the fact that we don't have a MM is because there were numerous heinous crimes committed in our campus?

Okay...

Been off the board for a few days. So what's the excuse for this? I remember seeing a tweet by IW last week expressing some disappointment that there is no MM. I'm sure there is some good reason for not having one but haven't seen it mentioned here or on the trove. Again, been off the board, but can Dan or anyone else shed some light on why we wouldn't have one?

I posted something about this on the Trove late last week. You can read about it there.

Could I have made the word "POSSIBILITY" any larger? (It's a device meant to open the reader's mind to options beyond the reader's own narrow vision. Sorry my use of the device was lost on you, shupat08). Look, my point is the administration (both athletic and academic) apparently have actual REASONS why having a MM is not a good idea. Not every decision is made on behalf of or without regard for the men's basketball program. My overall request is ... for God's sake let's everybody get ahold of himself and stop bitching about EVERYTHING!

LOL.

Well since I saw Dans post re IW's tweet and no other post with the "administrations reasons". I will assume that there are no REAL reasons like crimes, safety, etc.... Since SHU also decided to not have a MM once or twice when I was a student on campus.

I'll just assume it's the typical SHU administrative reasons of "well, because"...

Now if you can lead me to a post made by Dan with ACTUAL reasons. Then please do so, so I can also become enlightened re our Administrations many reasons to not host a MM... Like every other major D1 program across the nation.

As I read the posts about the decision not to have a Midnight Madness at SH on both sides of the question it reminds me of that time honored children's story that I read to my children and grandchildren and the important lesson it taught. That story was " The Little engine that could". Well with SH its " The little school that can't." It just seems to me that there's always some excuse, some alibi , some lame justification as to why we can't set higher goals for ourselves and why we accept mediocrity as our standard for our athletic programs. If you don't dare to be great, you never will be.

Some of youse guys are running the risk of incurring the wrath of the ShUMashinator. Be careful what's youse says here.

- Dan - can you let me know which thread it's in? I really don't care about MM but as mentioned, the players and students do, and it is somewhat of a recruiting tool, so just curious.

Georgetown had another great MM. Students packed the gym. Supporters, former players, recruits, players and family were all enjoying the fun. It was an event that brought all Hoyas together.

No midnight madness must be a Jersey thing. Both of the major conference schools are passing on them. Wonder what all the possibilities of why the "BIG" program in So. jersey is passing on it other than no one would show up?

...and they have continued theirs, in recent years, even though a gun went off in the bathroom of McDonough Gym!
