Mike Anderson back to Tulsa?

JP here. Didn't want to say anything until Haith was officially out, but yes, the Anderson/Tulsa rumors have been flying for the past 10 days or more. It makes sense in that it would be a soft landing and, let's face it, Anderson would be on the hot seat next year in Jamaica. Maybe get out of Dodge ahead of time.

Been posting hints about him leaving SJU for about 2 weeks on the Trove. Just couldn't mention the name Tulsa until it broke elsewhere as requested by my source.

I assume St Johns will be all over either the lead assistant at UConn or Hurley Jr

If Anderson leaves it marks the real instability in the SJU program. What will it be, 4 coaches in less than 10 years?
All the more reason for Pitino. Even if it’s only for five years it will stabilize the program and get them on a positive trajectory. And a great exit strategy for Rick and his career.

Ah, forgot about Pitino. Supposedly it’s the one job he wants so he can call MSG home court

Haven't heard the rumblings, but would be surprised if he left. He is smart and a veteran: I'm betting nothing about Queens has surprised him. He took over a train wreck after Mullin, and I think he has them in the right direction. (Their drubbing of us at "historic" Walsh was the low point of our season.) And I'd say flux at SJ's goes back to Looie. Mahoney had one good season, and Jarvis looked promising until he stopped coaching and recruiting when he realized he wasn't going to get a pro HC job if he stupidly insisted his inexperienced son were hired as a well-paid assistant. And he and the team imploded on a monumental scale.

Is Hurley out at ASU? Would he want to coach in same league as his brother?

I've, too, thought about Pitino leaving Iona and it's-one-bid-must-win- the-conference-tournament status.

Would SJ's skip over a couple of levels and consider Shaheen with his local connections and success? If it came down to him and the UCONN assistant, I wonder how that would play out.

Don't see Shaheen making the jump from mid major to BE though Willard and Cooley did. Openings at UMASS, Tulsa, and E. Carolina are more realistic. If he was interested in Central CT last year and didn't get it, that's discouraging, but of course this year is a different animal.

SJU much different feel (almost fully commuter school) than any of Anderson’s previous stops. Could definitely see him pack and go.

I doubt it. They are incredibly competitive and avoid playing each other. On the other hand, you would think being in the New York metro area would be perfect for him. His dad just recently said that he’s “not really a New York guy“ unlike Danny who’s been in the Northeast his whole life.

As scummy as Pitino is, he is a very good coach and St. John’s would be perfect for him. It would make the NYC metro area that much more difficult to recruit in but the Big East conference and tournament battles would be epic with a lot of strong teams.

Hurley Jr. may not have as solid a footing at asu bc there are internal issues between him and a booster from what I have read. Not saying he gets let got this year but it’s not a great situation at the moment.

I am not a Hurley jr. Fan but if what I read is correct I definitely side with him on this. However, the booster has major influence.

CL82: What's going on with Aubrey Griffin at UCONN? I know she is injured, but don't see her on the bench at games.

She has an undisclosed back injury. Apparently it’s the same one that her dad Adrian Griffin had. She had surgery for it and from what little I’ve heard she’s doing well, but she’s not traveling with the team. I know when Connecticut won the Big East tournament, Westbrook her had FaceTime for the locker room celebration .

Thanks. I hope she recovers; she fits the UCONN system very well, and they missed her this season. I thought it was an ankle injury.

She would’ve helped against South Carolina. She was actually playing as a forward for us. She has incredible athleticism and reminds me a little bit of Gabby Williams in that way. She would’ve gotten a lot more burn this year.

If Anderson were to be fired or leave for another job SJU has pretty deep pockets to not only hire a high profile head coach but also to pay for a really good staff of assistants.
