Today's question.

Do you feel that Angel Delgado is more suited to play the 5 in college or do you think he would perform better at the power forward position?

PF....very mobile big and he would be a nightmare against another 4 if he had a quality 5 playing along side him.

defensively he may be better off at the 4, if he could develop the 12 to 15 foot jump shot he'd be amazing; showed some flashes of that last season.

The issue though is who is a more suited 5 to play next to him?

He should be the four, no doubt. But with the dearth of real centers or kids who want to play like a center, the difference between 4 and 5 is not that great in college with some exceptions.

Right now Angel's game is better suited offensively to the 5. He has trouble if he gets the ball more than a few feet from the basket.

Now that can be chalked up to inexperience as he still has three years to play college ball and with his work ethic you would expect to see all facets of his game improve.

Right now we need him to play in the middle, but if Carter (C) or Anderson (PF) show the ability to play the center position maybe Angel can move over and play the 4. It would help his rebounding and better keep him out of foul trouble.

He plays very well close to the basket, not sure if he is better away. His size dictates he should play the 4. I would like to see him get the chance... doesn't answer the question but his size says the 4.

No doubt his future is at the 4 but there will be a learning curve there. Will be matched up against more athletic players at the 4, making offense and defense (already a weakness) harder.

He should not be guarding other teams 5 against BE teams. He is giving up height and pounds every night. He has more heart which makes up for it, but he needs to play the 4.

All things being equal, Angel is a natural 4. But all things ain't equal with our roster...and our clap-happy coach.

I really think he is better suited to play the 4 and disagree that he is better suited to play the 5. Maybe offensively but he plays the pick and roll very well where he catches, puts the ball on the floor and gets to the basket and scores. I remember a PF in the NBA named Karl Malone who scored thousands of points that way and that is a PF trait in my estimation. Right now he is not a face up four but he was only a freshman and those skills can be developed. But I don't think you put any player in a box and say a PF must have these attributes. Angel is a great rebounding 4 who is working on his offensive skills. He was far more skilled than I ever thought and as a result scored more than I thought he would which to me bodes well for him to grow in the PF position.

Defensively he has quickness and can move his feet but was told not to foul too much. Again the short roster forced that but did we really see what he could do defensively? I think with another year of practice he will improve his footwork and become a better defender that will move his feet more effectively. To me he is much more PF than he is a Center. What Seton 75 said is true that the difference is not as pronounced in the college game. But the kid is athletic, can rebound, started passing the ball better last year offensively and has a great ability to rebound and make a great outlet pass to get the offense going. He needs to work on his shot from 10-15 feet and his foul shooting in a big way. To me he is simply a developing big who has the potential to be a very good PF so that is where you play him. You can certainly play him at the five with Desi when we want to go small. He will never be a good center at the next level but has a shot at the four so that is where you play him hoping one of our other bigs steps up.

I would say that Angel is a 5 on offense and a 4 on defense. Although he had a great freshman year, there is plenty of room for improvement on both ends of the court. That is an exciting proposition considering Angel basically had no front line help all of last year.

Well deserved. We have two kids good enough to have won that award, and another clear all rookie player. With all the shit we have seen, I still got giddy watching these three and Desi play last season, knowing I would be seeing them for three more years. So that is my thought for the team going into the season, that it has been a long time since we have had so many terrific young players.
