Big East commissioner Val Ackerman responded by pushing to get the Garden contract extended immediately, USA Today Network New Jersey has learned. She had a key chip in her pocket: The Big East Tournament posted an average attendance of 18,790 fans in 2018, more than any other league in the country — and 3,500 more than the Big Ten drew in the same building.

I actually added that image to the email I got advising of the media alert.

Found it on a Goggle search.

Another reason why we want St. Johns and Georgetown to be relevant. And I would not mind seeing Creighton in the mix every year bringing fans like they did when Doug McDermont was there. UNC and Duke fans always travel well and you know Boheim and maybe others like him don't want the ACC in Greensboro.

A relevant SJU helps those attendance numbers and can be a marquee match up instead of a bottom feeder game v. DePaul in the afternoon like a BC v. WF or similar.

There is enormous strategic value in the BET at MSG. I don't ever see another conference poaching it. If the BE was ever susceptible it is now and we sailed through. Awesome.

There are potential “trickle down “ effects from this extension for the BE.
1. It strengthens the Conference’s position as a major player in college B.B.
2. It gives the Conference another arrow it it’s quiver when it negotiates with Fox or any other network on its TV package.
3. Another point to add to the pluses of playing in the BE when recruiting.
4. The Power 5 conferences have to take a back seat to us come Conference tourney time as to who has the best venue and who draws the best . Remember we’re a 10 team conference along with the Big-12 while the other four conferences have more members then us so our attendance results stand out even more.

If that’s a new Creighton logo in response to the legal threat from the Toronto Blue Jays, it’s awesome!

I believe it's an existing, old school logo. Seems they used a lot of the old school logos in that document.

Great news. So what year are we locked into MSG for (2030?).

Also wonder if this might entice a UConn to want to pursue us. Pay attention to the Nova/UConn game at MSG to see later in the month to see what kind of crowd that pulls in.

The ACC and Big Ten were rejected. The Big East is going nowhere despite overtures from those power conferences. It has reached a contract extension to continue playing its postseason tournament at the Garden for the next decade in the days leading up to Selection Sunday, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

A press conference to announce the agreement is scheduled for Sunday morning at halftime of the Iona-Columbia tilt at MSG’s Holiday Festival that precedes St. John’s facing Princeton.

The extension is two years, going through 2028, though there was an opt-out for both sides after 2022, a source said. The ACC and Big Ten had been in contact with the Garden to potentially play their conference tournaments there, according to sources, putting pressure on the Big East to act. But now, those conferences either have to play them a week early, like the Big Ten did last year, or go somewhere else. The ACC has played its tournament at Barclays Center each of the past two years.

Unlike the Big East, which has played its tournament at MSG every year since 1983, the Big Ten and ACC rotate their sites. That rotation won’t include the Garden for the next decade at least unless either conference plans to move theirs up.

I want Seton Hall relevant! The others can take a back seat behind us, thanks!

As I understand it the original contract ran till 2026 with an opt- out for MSG in 2022. The extension basically adds two years to the original contract and eliminates the opt - out in 2022.

Correct which eliminates any discussions with the B1G or the ACC. In reality it’s a 6 year extension and we don’t have to think about it for another decade. Tremendous accomplishment.

Once the RU faithful recover from the Fordham debacle, their heads will explode when the realize the BIG is second fiddle to the BE. They've all predicted the BE wouldn't get a contract extension and the BIG would get it. Ah shucks, it really must be agonizing to be consistently in the cellar in both major sports.
