Mullin

I've watched him a lot this year, and his demeanor, and he looks like a very very arrogant guy.

He is not built for the year round effort that he will have to give to make it in the college ranks.

He was f'ng the refs. Really classless. KW would have been tossed with similar behavior.
Funny that a guy at shu when pj was here would complain about cursing. Mullin was a gym rat and maybe he loves being in the gym. We shall see. I am rooting for him.

Why is that classless? This isn't 5th grade CYO. The guy has clout and it's a good job on his part to see how much he can get away with. If you want to pick on something, we can all have a good laugh about how he watched his assistant draw up their last inbounds.

Anyone know if he's been T'd up this season? He was certainly working the refs and testing the limits today.

Who is the young white coach with brown hair?

He seems to be doing all the coaching on that staff.

He was a HS all American, college all American, lotto pick, NBA hall of famer and on the greatest Olympic team of all time.

Of course he's arrogant.
Pat's on target. Mullin had zero athletic ability. So for him to be the player he was he needed something extra. And that something was arrogance and ego.

I saw it firsthand in every game against the Hall. He would do whatever it took to get any edge he could.

I remember #1 St John's coming to Walsh many years ago and the Hall dominating the first half going off the court with a sizable lead.

Mullin came out in the second stanza threw an elbow at Mergin Sina's head and from that point on the game was over.

Greg St Jean is the assistant that has been doing much of the game coaching all year. Greg's dad was former Kings Head Coach Gary St.Jean. Gary was also GM for Golden State when PJ was coaching there. Gary and Chris Mullins have been long time friends from the Don Nelson days. Gary was also an assistant and scout for the Nets years ago. Greg was a Division 3 players from New England area.

From watching some of their games this year, Mullin defers a lot to his assistants on things like substitutions or drawing up certain plays after a timeout. Nothing wrong with a first year coach doing that, who is learning on the job himself. I have no doubt he is heavily involved in practice, game plans, etc.

As far as the cursing goes, I used to attend the PJ/Louie Carnesecca battles and there were four letter words flying all over the place. Even the "model" of NCAA head coaches, Coach K, lets stuff loose in the heat of competition.

Disagree about Mullin not being in this for the long haul. That was St. John's prior coach (Lavin), who basically coasted after having a tremendous season Year 1 and bringing in a great recruiting class, which finally got them back to the tourney in Year 5. Their sophomores - seniors are a reflection of that lack of effort by Lavin. Mullin didn't take the SJU job to do it half-a**ed. And their recruiting class coming in next year speaks to that.

Could you imagine the outcry here if Grant Billmier was drawing up the plays and KW was hanging outside of huddle in the final minutes of a game?

There were multiple instances when they showed the StJ huddle (not wmduring the "in the huddle" segments)... When StJ's 3rd assistant was sitting in the huddle with Mullin. And Mullin wasn't doing any of the coaching, talking or play calling.

lets relax a bit. Mullin already has a great class coming in next year (better than SHU) so he seems to have a handle on recruiting. He's a guy that's ALWAYS overachieved in his career. Every coach has a different style and we of all fans, should not be throwing stones.

It is just amazing that Mullin didn't get T'd up at any point of that game. In the final seconds, he should have gotten a T. If they were willing to call a flagrant one on Nzei, then they should have been willing to T up Mullin.

Don't know Mullin personally, but from what I've read, he is highly respected in the basketball community, and Big East in particular.

Not only is a good SJU great for the Big East, but I want to see plenty of competitive Hall/SJU games going forward. It is great for sports in this area when football is gone, baseball hasn't started, and the Knicks/Nets are bad. As a die hard Hall fan, and an even bigger hoops fan generally, I really enjoyed the atmosphere today at MSG, and hope it replicates in years to come.

Last, if SJU is a has been program, than I don't know what the heck we are, because as much as I disliked Steve "Snake Oil Salesmen" Lavin, the last 5 years for SJU blow ours out of the water.

Mullin is an entitled, arrogant jerk. I hope St. John's stays at the bottom of the league for eternity. Has-been program.

Most of my friends who root for the Hall or other other BE teams couldn't stand Steve Lavin. I've found the exact opposite with Mullin. Many question whether he can coach - and the jury is out on that -- but people respect what he's meant to the Big East conference.

Why can't a good Seton Hall be good for the Big East? That's all I care about. St. John's has been worse than us for the last 15 years. That's saying something given how bad we've been.

I made a comment late in the 1st half about how Mullin had barely left his seat (Willard conversely didn't stop moving all game). Then when things started to turn around for SJU he couldn't keep himself or his bench under control. He deserved a T when IW was waiting to take his FTs. If he wielded some of his clout to avoid one, then the more power to him, I guess. That said the officiating was bad on both sides.

I'm with you there, my man. I think a good SJU and a good Seton Hall is good for the league, because it gets the NYC/NJ market invested. Of course, if I had to choose, I want US to be the one who continues to ascend, but I do think it benefits the league having SJU be something other than a doormat. Let the midwest teams suck.

Yea reading the Post coverage and SJU boards, it is clear that the kid from Iowa St who helped build that program (Matt A) and Slice are the recruiters. And St. Jean is an X & O guy, not involved in the recruiting much at all.

He does have Slice handing a lot of recruiting for him and that says something. Slice was not much of a HC so maybe that is why the Yong AC is doing most of the X &0s.

You mean the way they t up Coach K who works the refs to his pleasure? Mullin didn't do anything today that any good coach wouldn't have done. For a while there I thought I was looking at the RU or DePaul game circa 2013.

Yup. He was doing all the time out coaching in crunch time while Mulless was standing outside looking in. Very strange for a head coach.

So St Jean is coaching and Slice is recruiting?

What exactly is Mullin doing besides being the figure head?

Bingo! He's a SJU alum, AA, NBAer, HOFer etc. that adds up to poster boy from and for SJU. Maybe in 6 years well knw if it was a good hiring move. I'm told new coaches need that amount of learning curve.

We cry about FAN ignoring us. They won't ignore a good SJU and imo, the future of the BE (which is not assured) is the most important thing for shu. We need the nyc media to be dominated like it was in the Mullin years by the BE, and good as we were 89-93 NYC wasn't all over us back then

St.John's appears to have adopted the philosophy that you need a highly recognizable name as head coach to win and to be able to recruit , first with hiring Lavin and now with the local hero in Mullin. The fact that his assistants do the heavy lifting with recruiting and he's just the closer and in game strategy and he's just the face of the program it really isn't relevant if it results in success. If it doesn't then , hero or not , he won't last.

You guys are leaving out the most hilarious part of his bullshit with the refs today. They actually issued him an official bench warning for all the crap he was spewing at him instead of a T. Who else would EVER be given such a courtesy? ridiculous. Just add it to the pile of terrible officiating that went on all afternoon.

im almost positive they got TWO bench warnings. TWO. WARNINGS.

i think this is all building toward a new rivalry in the Big East that I'm sure most St John's fans will not want to admit is natural and good for both programs.

It's great for both teams and for the league.

It anyone has an elitist attitude they should check it at the door. Neither program has had a lot of recent sucess to hang their hat on.
