I haven't done my morning news surf yet, but heard on the radio that he is not expanding capacity for restaurants because of the "variants." Maybe in NJ this will go on ad infinitum, as our resident nutcase has predicted.

He really needs to be voted out in November but I have absolutely no faith that the sheep who populate this state will do it. Heck, we don't even know who he's running against. NJ GOP is spineless and inept.

But to be fair here... Variants or not. He was not expanding restaurant capacity on March 4th either way.

He was just saying it's not time to expand capacity yet.
He's right. We're close. Err on the side of caution until we have had a chance to protect the vulnerable. We are seriously very, very close.

Let the numbers dictate the decision.

My issue with Murphy is that I wish he would define the metrics about when things will change now.

Never going to happen. And he has said, since the beginning, that he's going by the science, by the numbers. All of the tracing they have done has not shown any significant cases coming from eating establishments.

and I do believe he is. I just think the metrics need to be quantified so we understand the rational for decisions.
Hogan in MD for example said Schools will be 100% virtual where the virus is spreading at x# of infections per the population.

All of the tracing they have done has not shown any significant cases coming from eating establishments.

Well, that's just not correct.

I happen to know of a friend who went out to dinner with another couple. That couple had CoVid and passed it on to my friend and his wife. He died two months later of CoVid. I don’t know how u can say that restaurants are not a major place to pass the disease.

When people eat and talk and are close to one another, the disease is easily transferable. I know of a sit down get together. Maybe 50 people but in seperate tables. 20 people got it from that event. One of those people then had dinner with my sister. He gave it to her. She then passed it on to my parents. That’s how easily it spreads.

I think the real danger is who you sit down with to have dinner and not necessarily th people at other tables. But once the government opens it up, it gives the go ahead to act like it’s gone and have get together a with friends u have not seen.

Right, because we have a lot of restrictions and very few people are eating out right now. Kind of makes sense that the numbers would be low.

Science is pretty clear. Indoors, masks off presents a greater risk. That is why we have dining restrictions right now.
When the risk of overall spread is low, that is when you would ease restrictions over risker activities.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, and hope your sister and parents recovered well. I think you hit it correctly. I went to the SHU game last night with my parents. We sat together, and people around us sat in their groups. I wouldn't have been comfortable if my parents had been in a group of strangers. Many restaurants doing outdoor seating in the cold months are doing "igloos" and strongly advising that groups be from the same household.

If what you surmise is true, and I think it is, then why not expand capacity, keep the "pod" system of tables as is, and advise that people eating together should be from the same households? Knuckleheads are always going to do what they will, and igloos/tents are somehow allowed, so what sense does it make to keep the thumb on the restaurant industry? I mean, in the video where Murphy was eating outside with his family and that nutcase confronted him, he was sitting <6 feet from everyone at the table. They were outside, and I frequently did the same in the summer, but -- by the book -- if you can't maintain social distancing outdoors, you're supposed to have the mask on. I have only eaten (indoor or outdoor) with my family throughout this lockdown.

See reply to cernj.

Yes, I do not think governor murphy will be pulling mask restrictions anytime soon.

Also this is an interesting read below. The doctor mentioned in this article said he was very optimistic about the out look on the pandemic. Now he is "losing sleep" over the pending variant effect.

Indoors with masks off and this virus will spread.

We expanded capacity from 25% to 35% in February. Eventually that will get to 50%, then 75 then 100 as we continue to vaccinate the population and reduce the related risks.

We're close.

I think we agree on this point. I certainly think they can expand capacity to 50%. But the problem is with the general public You know and I know restaurants can “advise” to keep diners within your household. But people won’t. That’s essentially the problem. My parents are doing well. They did an antibody transfusion which allowed them to be symptom free quickly. Thanks for asking

I had CoVid in early April. No such treatments existed back then. You suffered through it. However, my antibody level is still high. Just donated my plasma last week.

A peer reviewed study found that the brazilian mutation is reinfecting people who have already had covid and is completely evading vaccines. This is not good, not good at all.

Sorry for your friends and family.

But as you pointed out, spread at a restaurant from one table of strangers to another table of strangers is very low, obviously in a party setting where people are mingling around the spread can definitely happen a lot more easily.

People have to make choices that make sense for you, your family and your friends/co-workers. I have chosen to eat out very few times during this whole ordeal to protect my parents and wife's parents. I also avoid getting together indoors with people I know that eat out a lot to minimize my risks.

I just couldn't risk going to the game. With the variant news I was worried about variant spread at the game.

I have to say, I'm pretty amazed at how many people have flaunted that they have been able to jump the line and get the vaccine by using a network contact or found a crack in the system ahead of when they are supposed to. The roll-out has been about protecting the most vulnerable first (which is the right and responsible thing to do), but some are behaving like it's Black Friday when department stores opening and pushing past others.

Then you have the OCD types...."Have you got the vaccine?; Have you got the vaccine?", like it's some kind of shaming quiz. My response is "There is this thing call HIPAA.".

Fortunately, in a few short weeks, everyone who wants one will be able to get one. Biggest challenge will continue to be inner cities and minority groups as their compliance has not been good.

Did you at least get outside in the hazmat suit this week?

Hello. Thank you for making fun of me. As I sau before. I have members of my family who have severe medical conditions that live in my house. And you make fun of me because of the precautions I take? I have taken the precautions that I have needed to take to get through this. Posts like this are just unacceptable. I hope you have a great weekend with your loved ones. I refuse to stoop to your level.

i filled out the elligibility form just to see what its like. i filled out every question that i was young, healthy, work at home. except one question i answered about volunteering with elderly or disabled (in case special olympics happens this year) and boom easy 1A. its so easy to lie and get in the 1A group.

im not going to get a vaccine unless so comes back. which would probably be later spring phases anyway

When you have constant chatter everywhere about it (including the creepy propaganda-like ads on TV), are we really surprised that the average person is lining up like it's a Black Friday event? These are the same people that we see knocking people out to get a TV, LOL.

I'm still evaluating for myself. Leaning against currently. I'm amazed at how many people are straight up paranoid/frightened about the virus. One person I work with was so excited to get a vaccine appointment so they could go out to eat again. I'm like....that's cool? I just went out to eat last weekend.
