Murphy on upset alert

That wouldn't surprise me given the tax and school situations.

Jack winning would surprise me, even now. Remember the early voting hasn't been counted..

I believe the early vote actually came in first across most of the state. That's why Murphy was up like 68-30 very early on.

I read that too. But then I had someone involved in NJ politics text me tonight saying that Murphy's camp was conceding to some that the turnout tonight might go in Jack's favor, but that once all the early votes were tabulated, Murphy would come out on top, and that his group was still confident because of that.

Still 94% of the vote to come in from Sussex County, 46% from Cumberland, 35% from Burlington, 29% from Somerset, 28% from Bergen, 13% from Morris, 10% from Monmouth, Gloucester and Atlantic. Will it be enough to offset the 39% in Mercer, 28% in Essex, 24% in Hudson, 23% in Camden, 21% in Middlesex and 19% in Union that will break for Murphy?

Jack doing well in counties that had mimimal kim support 4 years ago...

Btw, I just realized we were likely using different terminology here. By "early vote", I was referring to votes cast by mail before today, or even that are postmarked for today. Apparently there is still some of that to be accounted for, perhaps more than folks think...

Why not? I guess it was too early to count? This is why people get annoyed by voting process. Somewhere along the line counting votes has become very difficult, maybe we need to teach Math at school.

Or maybe it really is a close race with both major party candidates getting truly equal support

I would like to know why these votes are always in favor of democrats. Doesn’t 93 have friends.

It really eats at the integrity of the system and you can understand why people become cynical. If you are going to allow mail in votes, you need to be able to have them counted and validated on election day (just move the deadlines/postmark dates up). Having to count and delaying the outcome past election day in this day and age is ridiculous.

How about different voting halls casting ballots in different ways across 50 states?

Don't disagree....we should have one standardized voting booth, voter I.D., and a system that enables in person voting (unless the voter applies for an absentee ballot).

We’re almost at point we can send people to Mars yet we can’t get an automated system that gets the results within an hour of polls closing?

The solution is simple - one election day. Everyone votes on the same day on electronic machines with paper backups. No early voting, no vote by mail unless you qualify for an absentee ballot if you're going to be out of the state on election day.

Looks like Murphy is going to pull this out as Bergen and Burlington have broke for him after being for Jack early on in the returns. Still, quite a statement made against him. Unfortunately, I think he will double down on his divisive policies in his second term rather than moderating to what the electorate has clearly demonstrated it wants.

What's going on in Somerset County over the last few elections? Used to be reliable GOP territory, now it's a swing county. Jack not running up the margins in his home county may cost him this race.

Morris County snapped back to its old ways after trending towards the middle/left in recent years.

What's going on with Somerset? Far too many refugees from Manhattan and Brooklyn who want the peace and stability of a red state but the moral and ideological degradation of a blue state.

I actually would be fine with having voting places open for 2-3 days BEFORE election day or make it a national holiday and having polls open earlier and later. Need to stop the nonsense that enables local pollsters to game the system.

Looking at the outstanding vote, I expect Murphy to win something like 50.1% to 48.1% if the current margins in each county don't change too much. Jack's only hope is to cut Murphy's margins in Essex/Hudson/Union/Mercer/Camden and flip Bergen/Somerset to him.

If nothing significant changes, Murphy wins by about 50-60,000 votes out of a bit under 3 million cast.

The issue is there is an opening in the system to retrospectively "find" the necessary votes to alter the outcome.
