First off, on Boston College.
This is not a schmuck pushover team. I have seen them practice 4 times now this year and they are a legit NIT/NCAA bubble team. However, they were extremely flat on Saturday and also missing their second best player in Nik Popovic, who is a potential All-ACC big man. I know for a fact they were all at the BC/Miami game Friday night so maybe that combined with it being a scrimmage contributed to the flatness, but that was the worst I've seen them look so far.
On Seton Hall
1. This is going to be a really, really good defensive team capable of throwing a lot of different looks. Romaro Gill is an absolute game changer defensively when he is in the game and he looked ten times better than I expected. He has a decent feel offensively and is great on the pick and roll, but he blocked and altered so many shots and he is only going to get better. His presence allows the team to play some pressure, which they used both a diamond press and a 2-2-1 press, both that were pretty effective.
2. Myles Powell is a tremendously improved athlete and player. He scored at all three levels, defended at a high level, and can really change the game in so many ways. Didn't see the playmaking out of him at all yesterday, but he is going to be special. Possibly Big East POY.
3. The PG position is in good hands with Quincy and Anthony. Between the two of them, we will get 40 minutes of under control offense, some scoring, good distribution and very high end defense. Nelson will start by year's end.
4. Rhoden showed me a lot despite struggling to shoot the ball. He is big, physical and smart and I think his upside is very high.
5. Sandro is noticeably bigger but still struggled with confidence. He can really rebound and defend though and I think he will have a solid year.
6. Cale struggled to shoot the ball, but I saw improved mechanics and still saw the elite defensive ability and ability to score in a variety of ways.
7. Was a bummer to not get to see Tauren Thompson, but glad to hear it was illness related and not suspension related.
8. I got to chat with Coach Willard a bit after the game. Was very cordial and mentioned that they have a solid team but still have a long way to go.
9. Tony Skinn and Duane Woodward are very hands on coaches, at least in pregame warmups, working with the players. Sha always was as well but Freddy rarely was. Now SHU has three assistants who really grind with the players and work to help them improve.
10. The officiating was awful on both ends and the new offensive moving screen foul rule is awful. Going to ruin lots of games if they keep calling it this way.
Feel free to fire away with any questions
