National vs. State Polls

Beyond Scott's argument for the debates it seems State polls are more reflective of reality.

Primaries are State elections not National.. The General Election is State by by State given we have an Electoral College.

It looks like a National poll would be misleading.

Just one example: Christie is 2nd place in New Hampshire at 14% but 3.% in the National.

 
That’s a fair point. Candidates with low national polling will need to throw everything they have at the early states. If they are making progress in those states, that should be factored into the debate threshold requirements.
 
Particularly now as the move to replace Biden on the ticket has begun.The pols behind Trump if lightning strikes may be running against a first time presidential candidate.
