SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rachelle Paul, a veteran college athletics administrator of over 10 years, has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Development and will serve as the department’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA), Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreational Services Pat Lyons announced Thursday. Paul joins The Hall after three years at Monmouth University.
Paul, who will serve as a senior administrator on Lyons’ staff, will have direct oversight of Seton Hall’s compliance and student-athlete development offices, which includes monitoring compliance systems, NCAA rules education and interpretations and the administration of NCAA appeals, waivers and reports. She will also serve as the department’s liaison to the university’s enrollment services and residence life offices and will have direct oversight over multiple sport programs.
“We would like to welcome Rachelle and her husband, Tim, to the Seton Hall Athletics family,” Lyons said. “We are thrilled she has chosen to join our staff as she has been an outstanding administrator throughout her career, and our department will benefit from her expertise and her passion for helping student-athletes.”
“I am very excited and honored to join the Seton Hall family,” Paul said. “Seton Hall University is synonymous with excellence, and I consider it a great honor to have been awarded this opportunity. I would like to thank Pat Lyons for his confidence in me to meet the challenge. Under his direction, and together, with President Esteban’s leadership, I am confident the athletics program is headed towards amazing new heights. It’s a great time to be at Seton Hall, and I’m looking forward to working with the administrative staff and coaches to do great things for the University.”
Paul had served as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student Development and SWA at Monmouth since April 2012 and was a member of the department’s senior staff. She coordinated all areas involved with NCAA and MAAC rules and regulations, provided oversight to all compliance processes, develops and conducts rules education programs, including boosters, and oversaw the comprehensive academic support program for student-athletes. She also acted as a liaison with faculty, provides tutoring, study hall and academic counseling oversight, mentors coaching staffs and provides daily policy interpretation.
Prior to joining Monmouth, Paul spent four years at Canisius, her alma mater, where she was Director of Compliance and was responsible for coordinating all compliance procedures related to the NCAA, the MAAC and Canisius. Paul also spent two years as the Assistant Commissioner and SWA at the Northeast Conference in Somerset, N.J., where she was responsible for the administration and management of all NCAA Division I governance and compliance matters, including interpretation of the NCAA Manual, distribution of the special assistance and student-athlete opportunity funds, administration of coaches' certification exams, conference compliance reviews and the tracking of member institutions' academic progress. She also served as the conference's liaison for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and acted as the coordinator of selected championship operations.
Paul originally started her career as the administrative fellow for compliance at the MAAC office in Edison, N.J., and she also served a 10-month term with AmeriCorps-Athletes in Service group where she mentored high school students within the Buffalo Public School system.
Paul graduated from Canisius in 2003 with her bachelor's degree in communications and then completed her master's degree at Canisius in sport administration in 2004. A four-year letter-winner in women’s lacrosse, she graduated from the program seventh in school history in career points (65), eighth in career goals (49), eighth in career assists (19) and third in career ground balls (133). She also earned two varsity letters as a member of the school's women's soccer team.
