Many of us, myself included fear the end of last season could be repeated if we get off to a bad start. Hell, maybe even if we don't.
Eventually there will be a slump and when that occurs how the team and the staff responds will be critical.
Right now Willard is putting the players through grueling workouts. The team is responding and that's good.
We are young, but talented. Someone, (Whitehead, Delgado, Gordon) has to emerge as a leader as did Theodore a few years back. My guess is Whitehead and eventually Gordon.
The good thing is we have a lot of warriors on this team. Whitehead, Carrington, Delgado, Gordon, Singh, Desi and Anderson all have attitude.
Add in Nzei and Ish who play hard all the time. And that gives Willard a group of players he hasn't had before.
You can include Carter as a quality player too, but he might need some time as he missed most of the summer due to his concussion.
This is a good locker room. I don't see a lot of potential issues with this group.
Still, they have to prove they can handle the eventual losing streak. And until that happens it's fair to say the jury is out.
Still, unlike most, I see at least an even Big East season if we stay healthy. Will that be enough for Willard to keep his job? Not sure. It will then depend on how the non Big East schedule plays out.
