Hall is no. 1 among power conference teams:
2016 is damn close. Team that lost to GW and LBSU. Team where everyone was benched for the last 12 minutes in the second week of January at home vs Creighton. 2003 as wellNot sure I can ever remember a Pirate team that improved as much as this group.
After the Rutgers game I really doubted my profile of the team posted on the Trove after being invited by Sha to a preseason full practice.
What I saw that day was a far cry from the team we saw in the OFC schedule. I actually told Hallrox that if I had to have my back surgery and miss the remaining season (in person) that I could not have chosen a better year.
Then came the UConn game and magically the team I saw in October, especially the starting 5, came out of nowhere and my preseason projection of #6 seemed realistic and in fact maybe a bit too low.
Still a ways to go, but now watching the games is must see TV again and on Sat Dec 9th who would have thunk it?
Think it was 0-3 and then we won the next 2. I could be wrong.2002-03 is another. We had an abysmal non-conf, started BE I think 1-4. Won 9 straight to get into the Bubble, including a couple Top Ten wins at home. Finished BE 10-6, got snubbed for NCAAT.
You’re right. It was 0-3 then won 2 and lost 1 to 2-4, then the 9 game winning streak. But 1 of the 9 was St. Peter’s, so 8 consecutive BE to get to 10-4.Think it was 0-3 and then we won the next 2. I could be wrong.
I think it was mentioned somewhere, after that game we had the annual players only meeting. All is well. Next year whoever's back needs to hold it after the first scrimmage. What a complete 180 and tremendous job by Sha, his staff, and his players. You knew Sha wouldn’t quit on the season after the Rutgers loss but his players could have. Instead they rallied and they’re in a position to control their own destiny. Hats off to everybody!
I remember you noting that on this board and I couldn't stop thinking about it as the team started rolling!I actually told Hallrox that if I had to have my back surgery and miss the remaining season (in person) that I could not have chosen a better year.
Yeah and if any of 3 grown men could count to 5 in 2003 we would've been assessed a technical foul and lost at Georgetown, which started a 9 game winning streak. Nobody complained about that. Officials have been making bad calls for years. It happens. I can guarantee it will happen in every single game we play this year win or lose. Some of those bad calls will even go in our favor.I'll say it again if only a grown man could count to 5. ...ughhh
This year had another meeting. Idk if it was players only, but it was around the time of the Missouri game and was framed as an “airing out” according to the quote (I think it was Dawes who brought it up? Not sure).I think it was mentioned somewhere, after that game we had the annual players only meeting. All is well. Next year whoever's back needs to hold it after the first scrimmage.
It was before the Missouri game and it was Kadary who said it during an interview. That meeting apparently changed the course of the season. What a ride. This year had another meeting. Idk if it was players only, but it was around the time of the Missouri game and was framed as an “airing out” according to the quote (I think it was Dawes who brought it up? Not sure).
Sometimes teams need such things. They’re only human. Whatever works mentally, I guess.
Damn you put in a lot of thought of these. At first glance this looks pretty good. At second glance, not so much. Most of these teams are mediocre at best, some of them flat out bad.
Good for us that we're No. 1. Here are W/L records since Christmas.
1 - SHU 6-3
2 - ND 2-7
3 - Wake Forest 5-4
4 - TCU 6-3
5 - Maryland 5-4
6 - LSU 4-4
7 - Stanford 6-4
8 - Texas Tech 7-2
9 - Tennessee 6-2
10 - Texas 5-5
11 - South Carolina 7-2
12 - North Carolina 9-1
13 - Vanderbilt 1-7
14 - Oregon State 3-7
15 - Iowa 5-4
I'm a data guy, what can I say. It's not hard to look up 15 teams. Lol.Damn you put in a lot of thought of these.
But that’s not the point of the tweet.
It’s impossible for most of these teams to be good because that would mean they were bad the first two or so months of the season and thus have a not-very-good overall record.
I thought that would be obvious.
You’re absolutely a research guy. I do appreciate that.I'm a data guy, what can I say. It's not hard to look up 15 teams. Lol.
While I understand that most of these teams may have struggled, I would think there would be a correlation in increased efficiency and wins. Seeing ND at No. 2 while going 2-7 in an ACC that most consider down is pretty jarring.
