South Orange, N.J. – The No. 22 Pirates will hit the road for a fixture against Army in West Point, N.Y., on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pirates came out on the right side of a thrilling, 4-3, overtime matchup with NJIT on Friday night under the lights at Owen T. Carroll Field. Mattia Cella (Rapallo, Italy) netted the game-winner for the Pirates five minutes into the first OT period. For Cella, it was his first goal as a Pirate.
Raz Amir (Israel) got the scoring started for the Pirates with a header to the far post to put the Pirates up one early. A streaking Amir was able to get his head on a Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) cross in order to beat the Highlander keeper.
Coming out of halftime with the score even at one, Mans Saebbo (Gothenburg, Sweden) found the back of the net for the second time in two games. Off another Pex assist, Saebbo headed a cross to the far post in the 76th minute to put The Hall ahead. The lead would not last long, however, as just over a minute later NJIT knotted the game at two.
In a chaotic sequence of events, Jordan Jowers (Middlesbrough, England) re-gifted the Pirates the lead just 16 seconds after NJIT found the equalizer. Jowers's first goal as a Pirate put the Pirates up 3-2 in the 78th minute with JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) being credited with the helper on the play. Continuing the back-and-forth action, the Highlanders again tied the game up, this time at three, just one minute after the Jowers' tally.
Just a few minutes into the first overtime period, Pex found Cella in the box for the game-winner and his third assist on the night.
