SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The No. 25 Seton Hall women's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort and a strong defensive second half to pick up an 81-65 victory over Saint Peter's on Sunday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium. The victory marked the non-conference finale for the Pirates as they enter league play on a three-game winning streak and at 10-1 overall. The Hall also improved to 14-3 all-time against the Peacocks (1-9) with the result.
The Pirates, now 24-0 in non-conference home games under third-year head coach Anthony Bozzella, got a game-high 17 points from Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) to lead four players in double-figures. Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) added 15 points and dished out a game-high eight assists while Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) recorded her 10th career double-double with 14 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
Saint Peter's led as late as 4:11 to play in the second quarter, before The Hall ended the first half on a 13-4 run to take an eight-point lead to halftime. The Pirates turned up their intensity in the second half, out-scoring the Peacocks 37-29 in the second frame to seal the double-digit victory. Talah Hughes led the way for SPU with 15 points and six rebounds.

Turning Point
Coming out of the half with an eight-point lead, Richardson-Smith burst out of the gate in the third quarter by scoring the period's first five points to give The Hall a double-digit lead it would not relent. Richardson-Smith capped her run to start the frame with her second 3-pointer at 5:56 to play in the quarter, putting the Pirates up 54-38.
