So happy that our 30 year old expert on everything has said Inflation fears are unfounded. She feels we can print whatever amount of money we want without any economic worries.Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman the acknowledged expert on the impact of money supply wrote that there was a causal relationship between increased money supply and resulting inflation.AOC offers a counter theory based on her obvious knowledge of money supply and inflation.Have to marvel when 30 year old that has no graduate education on the subject but feels the eco courses she took as an undergraduate gives her credentials to speak on this issue.Hey if printing all the money we want results in no issues that would be great. My concern is that all the economic courses, reading and papers I wrote in grad school tell me different.

And I can find just as many papers from portfolio managers and investment professionals saying the same thing, but would you simply discount them because of your grad classes 30 years ago? And yes, can find just as many opinions on the other side.

I would hope that she is formulating her statements in the opinions of experts she trusts for some reason or another, as I doubt she is coming from the angle of an economic expert and rather parroting the studies of others - which I’d respect a politician for more rather than representing expertise if there is none there.

Her argument was a fairly sound one which was pretty much the same as Jerome Powell’s. Small amount of inflation is good, and the larger items right now were driven by supply chain issues which should be short term.

For the record, I currently have no inflation fears. That doesn’t mean it can’t change, but I don’t see it as a significant problem in the next 12-18 months.

I would hope so too. I would fear she’s adopting something that fits her interests. I personally don’t care what the esteemed member of Congress thinks or suggests.

I think posters responding to my post misunderstood what my point was.AOC subscribes to Modern Monetary Theory (MMT).This is a Keynes on steroids theory which says sovereign countries operate in a flat currency so they are not constrained by revenues when it comes to federal government spending( e.g. print money to cover deficit spending). She needs this to finance the Green New Deal. That is the context I was criticizing her view not inflation in the next 12-18 months. Many economists who think the current inflation is temporary don’t subscribe to MMT as a long term policy.Sprry if I wasn’t clear.

Well if the current trajectory does not lead to massive inflation, wouldn't that suggest the theory has some validity considering how much we just increased the money supply?

everything is more expensive these days except things that are free for some, like rent and healthcare

Fiat currency is by definition at risk to inflation due to overprinting. And at its worst case hyperinflation.

pretty sure the fed extensively analyzes possible outcomes from printing more money. i feel like people act like they have monkeys pulling levers

Lol Ed O Dowd has AOC living rent free in his head.

Need to add the loonies from the republican side as well like Boebert, Greene, et al.
Problem with Boebert and Greene is that they represent the majority of Republicans. AOC and her ilk represent a small but very vocal minority in the Democratic side.

No? Are they not just mouthing the same policies and lies as Donald Trump ? He clearly represents the majority of republicans.
This is really a silly take. How come “mainstream” Dems say and do nothing about the idiotic bail reform laws the extremes of the party were able to impose?

What if Trump doesn’t run in 2024 as I hope. Will MSM talk about him more than the Republican nominee.Likely and if not still a lot.
CNN ratings tanked when he left so doubt they will ignore him anytime soon.Let’s face it even dems know Biden is a dud and the most mentally challenged president in modern era.

There you go again, addicted to the former president who is irrelevant now.
irrelevant? half the republican party still talks about him. Trump 2024. i mean, the guy is a serious candidate for the presidency. irrelavant.

stop turning a willing blind eye to the state of the republican party and its voters

You see the MSM and the dems (but I repeat myself) are already taking shots at DeSantis.

First, I was the first one to talk about bail reform in NJ how bad it was. Second, bail reform was passed and pioneered by a Republican Governor named Chris Christie. Christie continues to tout it on news shows. Bail reform crosses party lines and is not good.

So interesting that you have posted this. Just last week, the Democratic legislature and Gov in NJ has tried to rectify some of the issues here in NJ with bail reform. They have recently passed legislation that provides a presumption of incarceration to people arrested for guns and violent crimes which are subject to a parole disqualified of 85%. Crimes like carjacking, robberies and second degree aggravated assault. This is a huge improvement due to the Democratic legislature and governor in NJ. Apparently, Eric Adams wants these same common sense improvements in NY.

Your postings are so unfounded that I will stop replying to such obvious lies. Trump is the presumptive nominee. The only thing that will stop Trump is these "irrelevant January 6th hearings" that you ignore. Hopefully, he gets indicted and becomes irrelevant. But, to say Trump is irrelevant is absolutely ludicrous. If you do believe this, then you have no clue whatsoever.

Kathy Hokul disagrees. This is a no-brainer; cities like NYC are getting crushed. What's the delay?

What happened Hall85, NJ Democrats got you off guard?

Eric Adams wants to follow NJ's lead. This would be a vast improvement. As far as I know, there will be a reform to the NY laws as well. I do not know what you are referring to that Hokum disagrees. It seems as if she agrees that bail reform must be amended. So the Dems in NJ changed it for the better. And Dems in NY look to follow the same path.

No, she's been quiet on it (election have something to do about it?). Why hasn't she acted already? She has the means to act now (along with Adams). Talk is cheap.

I'm not a registered Republican, but these days I certainly lean more that way after spending most of my coming of age years as a left-leaner. I do not think about Trump at all. He is irrelevant.
