It makes sense for the Big 10. More games in conference (24) means less out of conference and less exposure of getting beaten and proven weaker.

Has 24 league schedule been confirmed? When I first heard about this my initial thought was BigTen must be going to 22 or 24 league games.

You can’t have an 18 member league and only play 20 games. The schedule will dictate the league champion.

I took the 24 in HallBall'n's post to mean the year 2024 since the Big 10's expansion begins next year.

This is the first I've heard of a 24 conference schedule. Add in a MTE and that only leaves room for three or four other OOC games. Many of the Big 10 schools already have annual obligations with other P6 opponents (i.e. Michigan State in the Champions Classic).

There won't be a lot of breathers in their schedules.

Will we try to work with another conference. ACC?
That likely isn't viable. They're already playing 20 conference games and they're starting an annual series with the SEC to replace the Big 10 challenge.

Plus with the ACC's looming expansion, my guess is they're going to go to 22 conference games as soon as 2024-25 for the same reasons the Big 10 is likely to do so.

I'm not sure we have an option to turn to and I'm not sure how much longer we'll be in business with the Big 12 because of their latest additions.

BigTen moving to 22 or 24 conf games isn’t my own idea, this is widely speculated as inevitable by the national analysts. The common consensus is 22, but 24 has been mentioned.

I have some inside info that this had to do with former Pac12 teams complaining about the travel. The Big 10 already does a ACC challenge and the former PAc 12 teams felt that they would rather explore a Big 12 -Big 10 basketball challenge which would lesson their future travel expenses. As I mentioned in other posts ..the Gavitt games started because of consession that the Big 10 made in order to hold the 2018 tourn at MSG.

If the NCAA wants to keep a hold on the P5, they better start considering an expansion of the max regular season games. Start a week earlier, add 4 games to the season.

I know people will say that’s dumb, but in the end, the NCAA is fighting to hold it together.

The ACC/Big 10 Challenge is done. Last year was the final year of their contract and the agreement was ended for a variety of reasons. The ACC has moved on to a series with the SEC (who also already has an arrangement with the Big 12).

The main driver was that ESPN no longer had rights to the Big 10 and had little interest in promoting those schools. But the idea that the Big 10 was likely already thinking of moving to a 22-game conference schedule was a consideration I'm sure.

I know FOX liked the idea of having the Gavitt Games because it gave them eight games a year featuring two of the P6 leagues that it controlled the rights to. I'm sure a Big 10/Big 12 challenge would be appealing for the same reasons although they would probably have to regionalize it to a degree because of the travel issues you mention.

Anthony, can we then assume that Requiem for the Big Ten is now in the works at ESPN?
