Seriously, all politics aside, but what is your plan to confront, manage and change our relationship with China? When all is said and done, this virus will kill upwards of 300,000 Americans, it has crippled our economy and lives of those that can least afford to lose their jobs. It has uprooted our way of life, disrupted our education process, and much more. (Not to mention China being the largest source for fentanyl, stink bugs, spotted lantern flies, They are clearly our greatest threat but other issues are likely to drown that conversation out.

Do I expect Biden or Trump to have any semblance of a plan? lol

I'd love to see us cut China off completely, but I doubt that will ever happen.

No good answer to this one
There is no good, easy or elegant answer to this. The real question is, should we ignore what is happening or should we be developing a strategy to deal with this existential threat.

Think about the damage that’s been done without firing a single weapon.

Assuming for a moment that China wishes to destroy the United States, I am confident they are smart enough to realize that it cannot be done with armed conflict. Our ultimate ability to defend ourselves with nuclear weapons makes a military option in feasible.

They can simply use our own political system to do the job. While our freedom is our greatest strength, it is also our greatest vulnerability.

While I might want to see that as well, it is simply not possible today; we (meaning the whole world...not just us) are a truly global economy...with many interdependencies.

HOWEVER, we must look to become less reliant on China, especially for key/critical goods and services (drugs, medical equipment, some rare earth materials, etc.) as we cannot be "held hostage" by a communist country that at a moments notice would have no problem sacrificing their own people if it meant hurting us.

That is something we can and should work toward. And "yes" for those that might ask, I would pay more money for certain goods that move here to be made....is worth the cost

Are they still the guys funding the deficit spending?

My wife is a zealot on this.

But Americans dont think it is our responsibility anymore to ask not what our country can do for us anymore but what we can do for our country.

Someone asked the question in the COVID thread; "How many deaths are acceptable?" I guess we should ask the same about our purchasing dollar. How much more would you be willing to spend for a product to prevent 160,000 of your fellow Americans from dying and hundreds of thousands from being hospitalized? How much more would you be willing to spend on a product to prevent millions of your neighbors from losing their jobs and being unable to provide for their families?

Instead of arguing whether a red or blue Governor did a better job or where you stand with Fauci, maybe we aren't focused on the most important issue and asking the right questions.
