NY Times Headquarters To Be Torn Down?

NYShoreguy,

Why haven't you commented on this?
From what i have read julius and bertha were german jewish immigrants, julius was pro union while bertha southern sympathizer. Adolph was born in 1858, became publisher of chatannoga times in 1877 and then publisher of ny times in 1896.
What would you care for me to state that would appease you, hall85 and others?
People who grew up in the south had some particular views on race and class. Adolph seems to have a history as a proponent of confederacy advocacy and great admiration of the leadership. Also appears he was pro democrat of the civil war and reformation era.

Is every black and minority worker at NY Times gonna walk away from the job? I would fetch an answer of no.

Yet you want all conservative catholics to comment on your thread, LOL?? Hypocritical much?

Well then they and you shouldn't say anything on removing statues, etc. from the past. Another instance of hypocritical good for thee but not for me.

Again my using conservative catholics was a reference point from another recent thread in which another used that very phrase...would it have been different if i used progressive catholics instead?
I don't care what religious affiliation comments on the thread.

You are twisting this because of the lean that ny times is known for. Thus playing to your agenda. If it was found out that Liz Wheelers great great grandparents were slave holders or southern sympathizers would you view her differently?

Mind you, this is a board where we have people that cant distinguish between religion and race and the usage of terms.

I'd have to replace her with Elizabeth Hurley.

You still haven't answered on the NY Times though? Why is it OK for some to have a racist past and get a pass while others you heap major scorn on? Playing to your agenda.

Playing Trump National later on today, thought you'd like to know.

POTUS arriving in Bedminster this evening. SPK meeting for dinner? LOL.

Of course, it could be another Trump National.

Race, creed, and color. Pretty much all lumped into the basis for prejudice and discrimination.

If you are going to parse precise meanings of every word, be careful what you wish for.

Let's see how many writers and editors do the "honorable" thing and quit.

Just finished a round at Fiddlers Elbow right across the highway. Was that your hook that caused a traffic jam?

How is Fiddlers these days? I've played Forest and River, but not for a number of years. Thought the Forest was spectacular, River was rather pedestrian.

Played the Meadows today for the first time. Par 4’s and 5’s Are pretty forgiving off the tee. Par 3’s were challenging. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. A little slow because of the moisture. I agree the Forest is best of the three.

Again, this points out to the ridiculousness of looking back and judging the past through the lens of today. We cannot fall into this trap. The far left has gone too far with trying to eradicate the wrongs of the past dating back 500 years. You can’t do it. It leads to ridiculous outcomes.

I will State this that the only thing that should be torn down are confederate statues because they were traitors and committed treason. Traitors do not get statues. To the other people in history they must be judged by the good and the bad. Humans have both. We cannot get around it.

Steve Jobs was a man that I admired greatly. His accomplishments are obviously known and made the world a better place. I also know that Jobs could be a terrible human being and treated people poorly and denied the existence of his daughter. While these things should be known and be part of the equation, it does not diminish the greatness of the man. It just shows that he was not perfect with human failings and not a god. We must remember that as we look towards our founding fathers.

The right cannot recognize that there is no room for statues of the confederacy and the left cannot recognize you cannot cancel every person in history that does not conform to today’s standards. Where are the moderates to save this country ?

We're here, but the voices of the vocal minority are louder than ours. Some of that is on us to be more vocal, but some of it is out of our control.

I think what’s missing from most of these conversations is context.

Considering most of the confederate monuments were build during significant civil rights tension, I think it is fair to say that the intent of the statue had nothing to do with honoring history. They should all be removed.

Other than that, conversations to remove statues of others (Washington, Columbus etc) who were not enlightened to today’s standards are pretty stupid.

Do you consider yourself a moderate? Just an honest question because it seems that from what I read from you, I’d consider you more right wing. You seem to be in agreement with a lot with what Trump does which is the opposite of being a moderate.

He claims he was an obama voter in past threads

I'm a moderate. Unaffiliated voter (previously a registered democrat, I changed to unaffiliated in 2018).

Voted for Obama twice. Voted independent in 2009, voted for Christie in 2013 for NJ Gov. Voted for Guadagno in 2017. 2016 presidential election I wrote in Joe Biden (ironic) as a protest against the two candidates. For 2020 I am leaning Biden, but the last month or so has given me second thoughts. I don't like the way the radical left is pulling Biden away from the center-left.

Trump is not a right wing politician. He has created his own segment, but his policies are more center-right than anything overall. I have said if any decent, morally upstanding human being had Trump's policies, that person would be one of the best presidents of the last 50 years, certainly the best since Reagan.
