One less Friend

Terrible. RIP.

He had worked hard to overcome the addiction and was very public about his challenges. It seems that wasn’t even a factor here at this stage. Sad.

Sorry to be that guy, but he kinda proved himself to be a douchebag in his memoir when he wondered aloud how his talented friends could be taken so young, yet “Keanu Reeves still walks amongst us.”

What!

I’ve never been a fan of Reeves, but you just don’t say things like that. The reason Reeves is still breathing and Perry‘s friends(River Phoenix and Chris Farley) are dead is quite obvious: addiction. I wonder if Perry, and his thick head, ever comprehended that before the end. Now Reeves has outlived another addict: Matthew Perry. He, in my opinion, is far less talented than his friends who went before him. I think the real sadness is we lost Phoenix and Farley so young, but had to put up with Perry for another thirty years. Dude was a no talent hack. At least Reeves can be convincing in action scenes.

P.S. friends is one of the most overrated shows in the history of television.

I assume you'll be at the funeral, throwing the first shovel of dirt? Geez.

I watched Friends here and there, thought his was the funniest character on the show. He didn't have a stellar career after that, and had some serious problems. Saw him being helped out of the old Continental Airlines Arena during the Stanley Cup Finals, I want to say 2003, could barely stand upright.

Have some sympathy.

'No Man is an Island'

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Who are you to know the levels of my sympathy?

What he said in his book was garbage, and he was rightfully called out for it at the time. Then he waffled on it. If you’re going to put stuff like that in your memoir, have the courage to stand by it. He came off as a total flake.

As someone who has gone through their own struggles with substances in the past, I do have sympathy for those who also walked that path…..but only up to a point. One has to want it for themself, not just to sell books. I don’t take for granted that I have been given another chance or my sobriety. He talked about what a miracle it was he was still alive(colon exploding), but given how he went out, he obviously didn’t respect it. I can’t respect that. It’s about living sober, not putting on a mask to sell some books long after one’s star has faded. The truth sometimes sucks. Sorry.

The No Man Is An Island addition is just overkill.

I long ago accepted that Hollywood attracts and/or produces messed up people, and stopped listening to their thoughts on life around that time.

That said, the timing of your rant(s) against this dead man - whom you presumably didn't know at all - is exceedingly poor, and make the depths of your sympathy look like a puddle. As for "how he went out," why not let the coroner figure that out? If it turns out he had a coronary after playing pickleball, and was sober, still (shrugs)?

That’s better. At least you didn’t end that in an over the top fashion with a completely unrelated poem.

I’ll tell you what, if pickleball ends up being the cause of death, then I’ll buy you a coke. How that be? What is much more likely is he was hurting after two hours of pickleball and decided to pop some pills and or drink a few belts before getting into the hot tub. Generally, healthy 54 year olds don’t drop dead after playing pickle ball. Whether he used that day or not, his past caught up to him. But, yes, by all means blame the pickleball.

The publishers want more dirt and sex, the author needs money and then the author owes many an apology. If they offered me a few mill for my autobiography I am not sure who would be safe. lol

He was a 54 year old who was given weeks to live at one time due to his addictions. Drugs and drinking get in the way for too many and they dont see the issue with honestly and that too often leads to bad news.

Yeah, "no man is an island" is unrelated to someone acting callously about another's death. Got it. You're an expert on addictions, poetry, and medicine. A healthy 52 year old friend of mine dropped dead mountain biking a couple of years back. Sure, the likelihood is that he relapsed and then drowned, but you're making a lot assumptions. It's not worth the back-and-forth with you -- if it turns out he wasn't using and had a heart attack, you'll still blame and bad mouth this dead son/brother that you don't know.
