Never a very knowledgable hockey fan but got into the Parisi/Kovalchuk Devils teams. Is this a lucky streak, the gelling of a good roster, or just something that happened out of the blue? 13 in a row, wow. Watched the last few minutes last night and was nice to hear the emotion in Daneyko's voice.

It was building last year, but injuries really hurt the core team. The young guys have all come of age (Bratt, Hirshier, Hughes) along with some key trades. Good article below analyzing the "why". Not an accident as the stats behind the streak are pretty impressive. Add to that their best off-season acquisition (Palat) is out until December as is the #1 goaltender (Blackwood). Ruff is a good coach and has them bought in to the system. Not only are they winning, but they are dominating and a fun team to watch. The days of the neutral zone trap are gone.

Different sport, but watching the Devils the past couple of weeks….whole team playing a system to perfection. They control the game and play great in both ends. One of only six teams in NHL history to win first 21 of 26 games. Maybe the other tenants of the Rock can learn a few things from them.

A once proud franchise was sent into a nose-dive by new ownership, and several very high first round picks are starting to pay off, and I think the GM is a pretty good one -- albeit no Lou Lamoriello.

I know nothing about hockey, but I enjoy this team a lot. Is there any GM who compaes to Lou?
