OT: If you're about 50 and a "Jersey" Boy, you will love this video

Funny, it starts off with an East Orange General Hospital chart. I was born in St Mary's Hospital in Orange. Frank

Great memories. My wedding reception was at the Friar Tuck. And I ate many of those Wetson's burgers, too. Video was a home run...throw in Jimmy's Roscommon House and that would have knocked it even further outside the park. Thanks for posting.

Jimmy's Roscommon House on So. Orange Ave, I remember many Sunday evenings sitting there knocking down drafts, underage, alongside nothing but Newark cops & firemen. Great food, bad area.

So many of these shots brought back memories. Especially the one of the Short Stop in Bloomfield.

When I was young my dad used to take me there all the time for the greasiest and tastiest burgers, dogs and fries this side of JIMMY BUFF"S.

Jimmy Buffs on South Orange Ave. I want one now!!!

Only stopped through NJ for my time at SHU and two years after, but I recognized, or had heard about some of those places. A lot of the images go beyond just NJ. Caldor and Service Merchandise...wow. Didn't think I'd ever be reminded of either of those places. Pretty sure I used to use the Service Merchandise catalog to write up my xmas list every year.

I've gotten a lot of great food and restaurant recommendations off this board, but the one that fell short was Jimmy Buff's italian style hot dog. I went to the one on Route 10 so maybe it was the location. I used to get them from Village Pizza and found those to be of better quality.

On occasion you might get an overcooked Italian hot dog at Buffs.

My dad worked there near the end of his life and I had a first hand view of how the food was cooked.

However, far, far more often than not you got freshly prepared sandwiches and when you did there wasn't anything you could eat that was tastier.

I don't eat them anymore as clearly they're not healthy food. But if you're in a what the hell moment pig out. It's worth every cent.

I had many a brew at the Roscommon in the late 50's. The area was still OK then.

Great memories and so many familiar names and places that are no longer around.

One name I'll never forget was Paul's. Tavern on S.O Avenue in Vailsberg where many of us would go after a BB game and Billy and Hoddy would pop in from time to time.

Always a SH favorite back then with Cryan's .

Great stuff.

I worked at Morts Port. And ate there too. Was a good place.

I went to the Clam Broth House while in college. After dinner, we found an old man's bar and asked if they had a pool table, the barkeep, who looked like an extra from On the Waterfront laughed and said, yeah, other room. There was a pool table. Unfortunately, the ceiling above it had collapsed and fell on the table and was not cleaned up.

We went back months later, and said they must have cleaned it up by now...wrong.

Hoboken has certainly changed!!

Thanks for posting.

I also had my wedding reception at the Friar Tuck and went to the Meadowbrook in Cedar Grove too.

Some great places in there I had not thought about in years like Bertram's Island and Jimmy Buffs and we use to go to Grunnings at lunch when I went to SHU too.

Too many other places to list but fun video to watch.

Ah, Jimmy's Roscommon House. Just talking about it with some guys recently.

Great stuff...... anyone remember when the Hoffman soda bottle was replaced by the Pabst bottle?

I'm think mid-sixties. I used to like to tell people that I grew up in the shadow of the Hoffman soda bottle.

Are you referring to Paulie's? The place a block or two down from the Hall? My freshman year someone gave me an ID of middle aged man with a mustache and it got me into Paulie's every time.

The only options I can think of offhand (I think Paulie's closed my freshman or sophomore year) were The Hall, Paulie's, Cryan's, Toro Loco, Stuffed Shirt, Ryan's/ Calandrillo's/ Gaslight, Bunny's and if you were desperate for a beer after hours and were feeling daring, Kevin's.

Have any new bars popped up in SO other than these, or have any of these since closed other than Paulie's, The Hall and Cryan's?

Anyone know what happened to Campus Sub Shop on Irvington Ave? I went there about 8-10 years ago and it was no longer there. Used to live off their hot roast beef sandwiches. Also, is the Corner Store still there on the corner of Ward and Irvington? Had my first Taylor Ham egg and cheese there which quickly became my go-to hangover breakfast.

Only two places missing for me were Bond's Ice Cream ( Awful Awful ) and the Orange Circle.

No pictures of the Belmont on Bloomfield Ave but the rest sure brought back memories. Hall D, thanks for the Hoffman Bottle picture. I wondered what happened to it.

In the late 70s when I would travel back home from DC, my dad would pick me up at Penn Station in Newark and ask where do you want to go for dinner. I would immediately say, stop at Buffs. Just after his implant and bypass surgeries he would always say that stuff will kill you and immediately drive there and order a double sausage!

In the mid 80's at the hall I recall going between classes to a bar for cheap 23 oz beers. I believe it was called the "long horn" or something like that.

Wow. I was hatched at East Orange went to Becker's Farm and Olympic Park as a little guy. I used to play soccer with the owner of the Flag Ship on Rt. 22. Shopped at many of the places shown. Agree with the OP that Bond's would have made it complete. Thanks for sharing.

I had many a brew at the Roscommon in the late 50's. The area was still OK then.

The Roscommon House was great. Those cold beers and a hot roast beef sandwich on rye were the best. I remember one night a group of guys and I went there and sat at the bar. The bartender asked each one of us if we were 21. We all said yes but for one of the guys who answered "No", the bartender replied, "Then you can't drink beer," we all broke up laughing and our buddy spent the night drinking soda while we chugged down brews.
