OT: Jim Mora’s NIL Rant

Who is this guy talking to, what audience ? Is he talking to the average person trying to put multiple kids though college, pay the bills, save for retirement ?

On the scale of 1 to 100 in terms of importance for a person like that donating to any NIL collective is probably 1,000,000.

Just my opinion, Mora has one, I have one and they both mean the same. Not much at all.

Just my opinion, Mora has one, I have one and they both mean the same. ZERO.

I think most reasonable folks would rather focus on building their own nest egg and monthly bills before even thinking about footing the bill for spoiled, entitled college athletes who already enjoy a free scholarship and countless other benefits to play their sports at their respective colleges.

I don't see it as a rant. He's telling it like it is. Surprised he thinks $1.5 mil even scratches the surface of what is needed to be a competitive football school.

If Mora is so pissed tell him to get a new job or go bother a bunch of super wealthy people who have money to burn.

Or maybe get out and talk to some businesses, thats the whole idea of this NIL crap.

This stuff is very fluid and changes by the minute, you know someone is going to drop a ton of cash and get all pissed when they see nothing from it.

again this is why its good we ONLY have hoops, more $$$$ and less players

We can all complain about NIL all we want. But it’s here and it’s not going away. If SHU wants to put a competitive team on the court, we need around $1.5 million (At least that’s the number I’ve heard). It’s up to Onward Setonia and Mike McBride to figure out where the money comes from.

Having the schools pay the NIL has been proposed. Now, NIL payments thru collectives to players can be based loosely on market value. Now imagine if individual schools give NIL $$$ directly to its players and having to decide who gets what.

I understand that we live in this NIL world but it doesn't mean that I have to like it.

Any individual can donate to SHU anyway they choose and still have an opinion and express it on this board regarding the basketball team.

Nobody needs someone telling them how to spend their money or how to express themselves.

Mora is upset that the BB team gets more than him
Nah, he's just telling it like it is. For what it's worth after these interviews he did get "adequate money" which I presume is 1.5 million.

Must be nice to be a state school & be able to fleece the taxpayers ala rutgers---that's part of the reason why I got the hell out of Jersey

You realize that NIL money doesn't come from the state, correct? This NIL money came entirely from private donations.

Where do you live now that doesn't have state colleges in it? Just curious.

I was not referring to the P4P sham called nil. Just the fact that jersey pisses away a boat load of bucks on a school whose football program is a black hole. Their entire athletic program is dependent on state subsidies and fancy book-keeping. An independent auditor would have a field day.

Got it. I was confused because we were talking about NIL money.

I have to admit I am at a loss how Rutgers can run at a deficit while getting 70+ million dollars in broadcast rights money distributions from the Big Ten, plus an additional 15 million as their share of the college football playoff revenue. In addition to that, as someone pointed out in this thread they get decent attendance at their games. Hard to understand, then, how they are still running deficits at tens of millions of dollars.
