...I bet. Ooh. Mets are rocking the ball after de Grom gave up 7 runs in three innings. Wright hits rocket on first pitch back. Let's go Dennie!

I recognize more Phillies on the Dodgers than on the Phillies these days, LOL.

Great moment for David Wright. The Mets have a ballclub to be reckoned with now. What a transformation now with Wright, Cespedes, d'Arnaud, Uribe and Johnson off the bench, etc.

I recognize more phillies on the dodgers than the phillies. and i think the total was 8. Im pretty sure the first 16 runs were all off home runs. insanity.

THREE THINGS:

1. Have the Mets ever made a better NON-TRADE than they did one month ago today involving WIL-MER FLOR-ES.

2. Is this the same team that could not hit a lick just one month ago.

3. How about this "Road Trip" and the number of Mets fans showing up in Baltimore, Denver & Philly taking over those stadiums. Mets Nation reborn. GO METS !!!

4. OK I can't count
SINCE THE NON-TRADE

Carlos Gomez with the Houston Astros: .188/.226/.250
Yoenis Cespedes with the New York Mets: .307/.344/.545
Wilmer Flores since the non-trade: .328/.368/.516

Prof ed and I sit with A HUGE Mets fan at our games. Denny has gotta be sky high. Here's to the Mets fans...Not an easy gig.

As a kid, I couldn't miss a Mets pitch. Seton Hall basketball has taken much of that passion but I'm still A big Met fan..., Let's go METS.

Let's go PIRATES.

Things figure to get better for the Mets tonight as they face off against Jerome Williams, who has been one of the worst starting pitchers I've ever seen this year. I'm ashamed to admit it, but a couple months ago, he was covering the plate on a play at home, and he wound up doing an unnatural split and hurting his hamstring. It was clear he would miss some time ... and I was happy about it. Clearly not my finest moment as a human, but I was relieved to get him out of the starting rotation for a while. But now he's back (and was actually good for a couple starts), and that's good for the Mets.

Lots and lots of fresh faces on the Phillies, and it looks like some of them might even be able to play. Adam Morgan was lousy last night, but he's been quite good overall. Aaron Nola looks like Greg Maddux-lite and Jerad Eickhoff, who was acquired in the Cole Hamels trade became the first Phillie to surrender no runs in his big-league debut since ... Cole Hamels, in 2006. Add in the offense provided by the (currently injured) Maikel Franco and Cesar Hernandez (who made it necessary to be rid of Utley), as well as the really nice talent that's developed this year down on the farm, and i think they'll be back as a team before too long. And it's fun to have the Mets reemerge as a local rival, especially with the Nats taking a big drop off after this year (lots of free agents), the Braves in a down cycle, and the Marlins being terrible.

Good point shusource. I know its baseball, but if you lose even ONE game to the phillies thats terrible. Phillies are so bad. So so bad.

Haven't the Phillies played well after the all star break? Source, it that attributable to firing Sandberg?

Yes, very much so. Sandberg is a good guy who just doesn't have the communications skills to manage a major league team. These guys love Mackanin, and that includes the Latino guys, because not only does he speak Spanish with them, but he busts their stones in their native language, too, and they are all on record as saying it helps them feel more a part of things. But across the board, they have embraced Mackainin's style. I hope he loses the "interim" tag and is allowed to return next year. It's a good fit.

Sandberg wasnt fired, and i dont think he made any difference. The team had a good run (happens when you play 162 games), but theyre back to being dog doo. Sandberg was neither here nor there. basically had no bearing on the game. Mackenin seems to be pretty good with the players and is definitely a step up from sandberg. But nothing is going to change how bad the team is. Theres more playing time for young guys who are trying to make a name, rather than aging veterans who are disinterested and just collecting paychecks. After the deadline the Phils have a new "lets see what we can do" attitude. With the exception of Franco, Giles, Nola, and maybe very few others this team still needs a couple years of rebuilding to get back to thinking about winning.

They cleaned up in the Hamels trade - I'd say that no less than two of those guys are impact MLB players, and that doesn't count Jorge Alfaro, who was supposed to be the best of the bunch. I have reservations about him as a catcher, but they say he can hit. Nick Williams and the pitcher, Jake Thompson, look like sure-fire MLB players. Their system looks nothing like it did a year ago, some some of these guys, as well as J.P. Crawford and Andrew Knapp, just need a little more seasoning, but they'll be competitive again by 2017 ... not predicting titles, but they'll be competitive.

Sandberg resigned, but only to beat his inevitable firing. They'll keep having ups and downs, but at least there are ups now.

Yea theyve been doing well with the return of all the guys they gave away (Paplebon, Hamels, Revere, Utley, Rollins). Hell, getting anything for Utley was amazing. Dodgers fans are not happy they gave away Sweeney. Utley and Rollins in the 1/2 spot and promptly go 0-8 in a no hit effort. HA!

If only they could have found a way to piggyback Howard on a trade and it would have been a complete 360. Its still going to take some time though. We'll see how SP pans out.

I don't follow the Phillies but they don't have anybody in there farm system better than Jerome Williams. I find that almost impossible to believe.

Sure they do, but a lot of guys are still too green. They've already had something like eight pitchers make their first-ever starts this season, so it's not like they're not shuffling them into mix.

That explains why the Dodgers are 4-6 over their last 10 games.

They've called up two of their top SP prospects already (Nola and Eichoff) and as Source alluded to
JP Crawford is widely considered one of the best prospects in all of baseball. I'm not a big fan of Keith Law (and don't know anyone that is), but last week he said the Phillies' farm system is now top 10 in baseball, and that's with Franco and Nola "graduating" and a far cry from where they were even a year ago.

With a lot of good friends being Mets fans, I'm happy they are doing well and hope they hang on and make the playoffs and even make a bit of a run (not sure if I want them to win it all though) ;).

Have the Mets made a better non-trade? Yes, Steve Phillips tried to trade David Wright to the Blue Jays for Jose Cruz, Jr., and he tried to trade Jose Reyes in the deal that brought in Alomar ultimately trading the top prospect at the time, Alex Escobar, who could never stay healthy.

I guess we will find out soon enough Jason. In the meantime the Nationals are 5.5 games behind.

At season's start the Nationals were considered the best team in baseball on paper anyway. As good as the Mets starting pitchers have been, the Nats have better starters 1-4. So I guess winning is not decided on paper. Mets are now 6.5 games ahead of the pack. With 6 remaining head to head games let's see if they can hold off a late charge by the Nationals.
