Watched a good amount of the Washington/UCLA game last night. Washington is tied for the top in the Pac-12 w/Oregon and they start 4 freshmen and have 2 other freshmen that contribute. They were picked 11th in the preseason. Hell of a job by Romar thus far. Just shows you can over achieve even with a young roster.

Completely true and why I don't buy the "we're too young" and "wait till next year" rhetoric.

You're looking at the exception rather than the rule. Experience counts. Is generally it is true that is very difficult for a freshman to have an impact. Obviously, if you were to assemble a group of McDonald all Americans, of course it's the exception.

I don't know Washington's makeup, but like the Fab Five, it's not the norm. That aside, I think were doing all right for ourselves despite our youth But if this same group stays together for another year or two, it stands to reason we would be markedly improved. Frank

As far as I know Washington has no McD All-Americans. A few four star recruits in that freshman class according to VC.

I think theoretically teams should get better over time, and I agree that statistically younger teams probably do worse. However, your modifier of "if this same group stays together" is not something I'm even more than 50% sure will happen. If there is one narrative that is as pervasive as "we're young" on this board, it is that "transfers happen every year". There is no guarantee everyone stays, and the program will keep things close to the vest the entire season and let surprise transfers happen in the summer (like Gibbs last year or Cosby before that).

This is the reason I have a growing distaste for thinking about how "we're really going to get over the hump next year". The focus needs to be on making it this year, because everything beyond that is uncertain. Willard's continued failure to make this year materialize has also increased my skepticism that next year is somehow the magical formula.
