WSU was down 9 at the half now it is tied at 44 with 11 min left. We need the shockers to run through the MVC. Where is stickboy? I like his posts here!

Shockers lose 53-50. The longest home winning streak is now history. NIU has now beaten 3 top 25 teams. If only they didn't get off to such a poor start in the MVC. Things are heating up for the bubble.

Our ooc schedule looks like a joke!

It is not a joke like in prior years not great this year, but it is good enough to not hurt your NCAA chances if you take care of business in conference.

SC, that UNLV win by WSC turned out not to be anything.

Right- i referenced the Utah win which still holds up. That is pretty much all the Shockers can hang their hat on right now.

Instead of worrying about what others are doing, try concentrating on what SH is or isn't doing. That's all that really matters. Can't control what others are or aren't doing.

You think we can have a discussion about how the NCAA filed is going to shake out this year and how that affects SHU chances? Go play a slot machine on the strip or something if you are not interested. Geez.

yea, but our postseason chances unfortunately rest on other teams' shoulders even if we win the games we should. you need some good wins and we are one more providence loss away from having none.

We've definitely had a couple of REALLY bad shooting games that killed us. Against ISU we went 1-14 from 3 in the 2nd half. Ended the game shooting 35%. Against UNI we shot 30%. We just couldn't buy a basket. Teams played zone on us, and with not being able to hit shots, they just collapsed inside and stopped all inside play. Three of our best shooters (Baker, Van Vleet, and Frankamp) shot 24% in those 2 games. You guys saw what Frankamp was capable of yet he was a combined 3-13 in those 2 games. Can't beat a zone like that.

With that said, our season pretty much hinges on the MVC Tourney. Its sad really. We are currently ranked 13th in Kenpom (#1 in AdjD), 23 in Sagarin, 26 in BPI yet somehow we are 52 in RPI. The RPI system is extremely flawed, yet its a primary source for the committee.

We still have the regular season MVC pretty much locked up, and a very good chance to win the MVC tourney (if we play like we did last night against NMSU). The problem is we have a bad history with the MVC tourney. Teams get 3 shots each year to plan and scheme to beat us, and we are the prime target. Teams and fan-bases in the MVC hang their hats on their season if they beat WSU, so you get everyone's best shot. It's definitely a super bowl effect. I think the last time I looked, Attendance at WSU away games in conference are on average close to double what the teams draw the rest of the year. It also hurts that from Jan 1 until selection Sunday, we basically have a gauntlet of 18 straight potential bad losses and ZERO chances for quality wins. Its a lose lose situation for us. Doesn't help that UNI is actually really good (owns wins over UNC and Iowa State), yet they decided to disappear for a few weeks this year. They are coming back into form now. Illinois state also played both Maryland and Kentucky close at their places this year. They are talented but not well coached.

With that said, I've been rooting for you guys all year. I would LOVE to get another shot at you guys come March. I think it would be fun. No idea who would win though.

Glad to see you post after me asking where you were. I completely agree with your assessment about the potential for bad losses with the conference the way it is right now. Did you feel that way when Creighton was still part of the MVC? When you were rolling in conference play this year Lunardi had you guys as a 6th seed now he has you in the 8-9 game.

Keep posting here. Thanks.

Shockers will be a much different team next season.......VanVleet, Baker, Wessel and Grady will be gone.

fun to piss and moan about the OOC every time a past opponent loses. some of you people love to be miserable.

It wasn't AS bad .. but it was still bad. There was a few years that the MVC put 3 to 4 in the Tourney. That was back with SIU and MSU were actually good teams. Right now the biggest problem is the teams that schedule up in the Non-Con don't end up winning the games. The ones that have the ability to schedule so poorly they can't get an at large (Evansville scheduled THREE SWAC teams this year, a year in which they have 2 really good senior players). Creighton helped, but even just having one additional good team helps. Last year that was UNI. This year, there is no one that WSU can lose to and not take a "bad loss". Its hard for any team to win 2 months straight, let alone against teams with multiple attempts to beat you and know your gameplans very well.

Stickboy, I'd love another shot at u next December. i think the two AD's should extend the home & home contract. It's worked out well for both of us.

I agree, its been a good series. Definitely a mutually beneficial one

Very true, though the drop off shouldn't be as big as some people make it out to be. You dont' lose guys that are as good as Van Vleet and Baker and not take a drop off. Wessel provides a lot, but Kelly already is stepping into that role. Kelly has much more upside than Wessel. Grady has been hit or miss. He's a solid player but he's our second best big man behind Morris. The problem is Morris gets too many dumb fouls, and doesn't have the stamina to play a full game.

With that said, we have know quantities in people that have played lots of minutes in their Freshman and Sophomore(some of them) years. Frankamp (So), McDuffie(Fr), Brown(So), Kelly(So), Morris(So), and Nurger(So) all have had lots of playing time this year and last. Our best Freshman, Shamet has been out since November. He was actually starting in place of Van Vleet when he was injured. We have a transfer from Texas A&M sitting out due to transfer rules this year, Peyton Allen. Also have 2 JUCO transfers coming in, another PG and a quality big man. There are also 2 talented Freshmen coming but I'm not counting on them to perform right away. There are 2 current Freshmen on the roster that haven't really learned the system yet.

So even with what we have and are losing, we should still be a solid 8-9 players deep in rotation. The question is how well they can work together without Fred leading the ship. Shamet is capable of that role, but only got to play a few games this year before hurting his foot. We wont have any seniors next year, besides 2 guys that are walk-ons that only play in blowouts. That means next year might be rough, but the year after could be very very good.
