Congratulations to Our BIG EAST All-Stars

8826952.jpeg

I can't say enough about our student-athletes and their commitment to academic success, and the proof is in the numbers as over 80 percent of them (199 to be exact) were named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars. This award requires a student-athlete to have a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the whole 2014-15 academic year.

I'm not only impressed by the large amount of our athletes who achieved this distinction, but I'm also thrilled that many of them are now repeat recipients. In fact, 116 of the 199 student-athletes have been named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars at least twice, and 32 of them were Academic All-Stars all four of their years at Seton Hall!

We continue to push our student-athletes towards academic excellence, and they continue to rise to the occasion. I am so proud of their accomplishments and can't wait for even more success stories about our student-athletes in 2015-16.

Pirate Blue Golf Outing a Sold Out Success

8829360.jpeg

The Pirate Blue Golf Outing is always a fun day for me, especially because it helps support our student-athletes and all the initiatives our department takes on to provide a better experience for them. It was great to see many of our Pirate Blue supporters at the event and give them an update on our exciting developments and achievements.

And congratulations to the O'Brien Family foursome for being the day's top golfers!

Softball, Tennis to Benefit from Essex County Renovations

8818002.jpeg

Last month, Essex County and Seton Hall Athletics announced a partnership to renovate Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field and four tennis courts in Ivy Hill Park. The construction, which is already underway and should be completed in September, will result in a pair of modern facilities for the County that Seton Hall's softball and tennis programs will use for practice and competition. The plans include new turf, dugouts, hitting cages and a press box for the softball field and a completely new surface, netting system and lights for the tennis courts.

We're very excited for both programs because this represents a significant upgrade for the two teams. As we always stress, the student-athlete experience is paramount, and we feel that the renovations will give our softball and tennis teams a great home where they will compete for BIG EAST championships.

It's an exciting time on campus because our fall sports programs are gearing up for action, which means the start of our 2015-16 campaign is just around the corner! The women's soccer team reported for training camp this week and will be the first team in action on Aug. 21. Our men's soccer and volleyball teams both open play the following week on Aug. 28.

And I hope you'll join us on Sept. 4 when all three teams have their home openers on campus!

Both our men's & and women's basketball teams have now announced their 2015-16 non-conference schedules, and it's exciting to see we have some great games lined up for Pirates fans. You'll have the opportunity to see a combined 12 non-conference games at home between the two teams. Hope You Had a Great Summer!

With our fall teams gearing up for action comes the end of the summer. I hope all of our Pirates fans enjoyed their summers and got an opportunity to relax, vacation and spend time with family.

One of our loyal supporters, Matthew Regan, sent in this photo of his two kids, Patrick and Paige, wearing their Pirates gear in the Canadian Rockies. Matt is the son of the great Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Richie Regan!

We always enjoy seeing photos of our fans and supporters, so if you have a fun one to share from your summer vacation, tweet it to us @SHUAthletics.
