Pelzman article on Derrick Gordon

He and Anderson are quietly becoming team leaders for this young roster.

Losing Gibbs clearly hurts, but maybe when combined with his contributions replacing Sterling on the court and his strong influence behind closed door the loss will be somewhat minimized.

Gibbs had strong leadership qualities, but were they good leadership qualities that make a team better? Between his on the court argument with IW, to the elbow to Archies head, the twitter chat about the number of shots Gibbs is getting, the locker room issues 2 years ago about selfish play and people being in it for their stats, getting suspended right before Creighton game. Gibbs will surely be missed on the court though.
As far as Gordon goes, we need what he has on D as well as knowing how the game is played. And I hope the conversations with Willard about 3pt shooting was to not shoot them.

Yes, terrific article. I am looking forward to seeing Derrick play.

Seems like a real good kid that has had to navigate some difficult issues very early in life. Someone that will be very easy to root for.

Did he? Never saw this exhibited in any way. He provided a lot of scoring and two huge shots the last two years but we were terrible the two seasons with him. And despite the two game winners, the lasting reminders for me are still the altercation with IW (in which he was clearly the aggressor) and his sideline/ huddle horrendous body language.

There was also that little something that went down in Philadelphia...
