Pirate Blue Nation Steps Up to Help Athletics on Day of Caring
South Orange, N.J. – Faced with a global pandemic, its NCAA distribution funding cut by more than half and always striving to provide the best for its student-athletes, Seton Hall Athletics hoped that its loyal group of fans, alumni and supporters could find the means to help the department face its financial challenges head on. As the department has come to expect, Pirate Blue Nation once again delivered in support of Seton Hall's amazing student-athletes.
After Pirate Blue revised its annual Donor Matching Day campaign into Seton Hall Day of Caring, the department set a goal of $100,000 over the two-day event, and the generous support that poured in was overwhelming with $107,505 raised from 379 donors.
"Our student-athletes were especially affected by the pandemic as winter 2020 championships and spring 2020 sports were canceled, depriving so many of our young men and women, especially our seniors, the opportunity to compete in the sport they love," said Director of Athletics & Recreation Bryan Felt '97/M.A. '05. "The support from our Pirate Blue faithful will help ease the stresses our student-athletes are experiencing. We cannot thank our Pirate fans, alumni and our supporters enough."
Pirate Blue is especially thankful to a group of supporters who set challenges for other donors to meet, thereby "unlocking" their contributions to be included towards the $100,000 goal. Those supporters include Patrick Murray and Mary Ann Pfaff Murray, Bob and Marie Sloan, The Frungillo Family, and Bill Burke.
Seton Hall Day of Caring was not limited to athletics, but rather was a University-wide event with Seton Hall supporters showing overwhelming Pirate Pride by giving over $365,000 that will go towards student aid.
Though Seton Hall Day of Caring has concluded, the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund is always striving to find ways directly support the Department of Athletics and its student-athletes. Donors can make a tax-deductible contribution online and join Pirate Blue any day of the year.
