SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's volleyball Head Coach Allison Yaeger announced today that Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) has transferred to the University and will play volleyball for the Pirates this fall.

Matheny joins the Pirates after spending the prior two years as part of the Hofstra University volleyball program. Although the Pride played only seven matches during the COVID-19-shortened 2021 spring season, Matheny was a force. The outside hitter played in 15 sets and ranked third on the team in kills and kills per set. She led the Pride with a .296 attack percentage. On Feb. 26, Matheny recorded career-highs of 14 kills and 11 digs in Hofstra's five-set victory in Walsh Gym at Seton Hall.

As a freshman, Matheny played in 22 matches for Hofstra in a mostly reserve role. She ranked fifth on the team in kills and service aces

In high school, Matheny was a star for The Charter School of Wilmington. Named Gatorade Player of the Year in Delaware, she was the first player in school history to record 1,000 career kills and helped Wilmington record a 17-2 record and capture the state title as a senior. Matheny was a four-time All-State selection and earned Academic All-Conference honors as well.
