South Orange, N.J. — Seton Hall men's soccer Head Coach Andreas Lindberg has announced the Pirates' schedule ahead of the 2021 season. Following one of the most successful campaigns in program history, including a BIG EAST Championship and a NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals appearance, the Pirates will play a strong non-conference slate of eight matches in addition to 10 matchups against BIG EAST foes for a total of 18 games.

The Hall will also take part in two exhibition matches prior to the official start of the 2021 season. In total, Pirates will take on five teams from the 2020 NCAA Tournament held last spring. The Pirates will play their home matches starting at 6:56 p.m., which, in military time equates to 18:56, to honor the school's founding year of 1856.

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Seton Hall will unofficially begin the year with a home exhibition match against Monmouth, an NCAA Tournament participant last season, on Friday, Aug. 13, before traveling to Manhattan College on Friday, Aug. 20 for the second of two exhibitions for the Pirates.
  • The Pirates will open the 2021 season at home with matches against Temple on Thursday, Aug. 26 and Delaware on Monday, Aug. 30. The Hall will look to continue their home field success after posting an unbeaten mark of 6-0-1 at the friendly confines of Owen T. Carroll Field last season.
  • Following the home openers, the Pirates will hit the road for a pair of matches at N.C. State's campus in Raleigh, N.C., against the host Wolfpack on Friday, Sept. 3, before taking on Virginia Tech on Monday, Sept. 6. The match with the Hokies will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Round of 16 thriller in which the Pirates advanced 7-6 in a penalty kick shootout that saw Pirate keeper Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) stop two penalties before making the game-winner himself.

  • The Pirates will then return home to take on the likes of last year's season-opening opponent, NJIT, at home on Friday, Sept. 10 before heading to West Point, N.Y. for a matchup with Army on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
  • The defense of the 2020 BIG EAST Title will officially commence when the Pirates take on Providence at home on Saturday Sept. 18. In the BIG EAST, The Hall will host, Providence (9/18), Marquette (9/24), Georgetown (10/6), Xavier (10/9) and Connecticut (10/20). The Pirates will take to the road for fixtures with conference foes Butler (10/2), DePaul (10/13), St. John's (10/16), Creighton (10/23) and Villanova (11/3).
  • Highlighting the conference schedule will be 2020 BIG EAST Tournament rematches with Marquette and Georgetown. The Pirates handled the Golden Eagles 4-1 in the semifinals before taking down the then-No. 2 ranked Hoyas on their own turf, 2-1. The title victory for the Pirates was their first since 1991 as they handed 2019 National Champion, Georgetown its first BIG EAST defeat in over 900 days.

  • Another conference matchup of note will be the Pirates' return to Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y., to take on St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Pirates swept the Red Storm in two games last season, including a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 victory in overtime at Belson. The Hall currently holds a three-game unbeaten streak against St. John's, its longest such streak since the Pirates won seven straight from 1986-91.
  • With a return to a normal conference schedule, the BIG EAST Tournament will feature the top six squads in league play starting with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, Nov. 6, followed by the semifinals on Wednesday Nov. 10, and culminating in the BIG EAST Tournament Final set for Sunday, Nov. 14.
